just asking a simple question.. which all i've come to from the one guy that obviously dreads are tough to grow and i should try it since im jealous of growing hair and somehow dreads are as difficult to grow as training for a triathlon...

professor chaos sorta answered it i guess but yea..

i was really hoping for a messiah like answer to the whole situation

exactly.. it's just hair... but dreadies feel the need to justify their hair for the silliest of falsities.. and have to always feel defensive of their dreads.. that's why there is so much drama in these parts... it's what happens when you coral a bunch of conceited sheep

    Perhaps you're on to something.

It's always nice to get a fresh opinion. I have wondered myself why there aren't forums for other types of hair, or why the dread forum isn't a sub-forum in an overall hair forum. So, good initial point.

I'm not going to assume you created this thread to merely get a rise out of people, but if so, I'm not biting. Because behind your "trash-talk", you've actually got a few good points to think on.

I will definitely agree that dreadheads (at least online; I don't know any in real life) are certainly a defensive, opinionated group of people. I definitely do not think vain is the right word choice, though.

no.. this was not intended to be a trap..

dreads are a fashion.. there is rarely any meaning behind dreads other than "im a hippie" or "its cool.. i like bob marley".. prove me wrong.. and not with a handful of e-hippies testimonials.. if dreads were to mean anything of a spiritual nature on these forums you would have found this as a sub-forum of the rastafarian forum

Some members here definitely have a spiritual connection to their dreads and have made it quite clear that they do. I cannot speak for them, for I am on the complete other side of the fence, but I would hope they aren't making up some spiritual connection for no reason.

I agree with you to a certain extent. My dreads are merely just a hairstyle, a different fashion. But, at the same time, I did not dread my hair to look like a hippie or to pretend to be like Bob Marley (as cool a guy he is). I dreaded my hair for change, for fun and because I like how they look. I also figured now, in adolescence, is my time to experiment and not give a shit about the professional repercussions of my appearance.

Everyone will have a different answer to you as to why they got dreads, so you really can't generalize it into such small parameters. I think you'd get a more positive reaction and honest opinions if you asked more questions instead of assuming. I definitely would not consider myself vain, and would probably be offended if someone kept on insisting that I was. That's just stereotypical.

    lol I agree

I'm sure there are exceptions, but I have dreads just cause I think they look cool

And alot of people who get them coincidentally start liking Bob Marley and wearing tye dye shortly after

Actually, stereotypes come out of hatred and false information. They come from rumors and generalizations based on an original select few. They're bred out of ignorance and an unwillingness to learn and be educated.

I have never seen anyone successfully try to prove the validity of stereotypes before. Generally something is discredited when it's a well-known stereotype.

And of course there are going to be some people who dread their hair to be like Bob Marley or because they're just such a peaceful, loving hippie. But there are plenty of other people who dread for plenty of other reasons; why are you focusing on the two more negative stereotypes and trying to apply them to this forum as a whole; which ironically has few members who fit into your dread stereotypes?

would you prefer i focused more on the positive stereotypes of dreadies.. oh wait.. positive stereotypes.. that's an oxymoron.. when you say something positive about a group of people its truth.. not some stereotype:rolleyes:

The dreadie forum is for people who love dreads. If you dont love dreads dont feel a need to come around....if you do ...then welcome and please feel free to post and share your thoughts, pics, and whatever else you want. Its really pretty simple. It doesnt need to be analyzed. If there were more bald enthusiasts and Chelsea fanatics then yeah...why not start a forum? I do not believe anybody here is any more vain than anyone else....we just all love dreads and stumbled upon this forum while researching them....or thats how I did anyways. =]

i have no problem with dreads... just the way a lot of dreadies prefer to put themselves on some sort of pedestal because they have dreads.. that's all..
