We have known for years that the human brain doesn't reach maturity until age 25 to 30, especially in the prefrontal cortex, and some seemingly never mature. However all this is irrelevant as without access to modern weaponry little damage can be done by these pre fully developed brains. Placing the blame for mass shootings on these people is no different than blaming a two year old for burning down a house when we leave matches laying around where they can get them. Both the two year old arsonist and the 18 year old murderer certainly bare some responsibility, but ultimately we, as a society are the ones who give them the tools. Just as a 2 year old isn't going to burn down a house by rubbing two sticks together, so too an 18 year old isn't going to kill 19 school children in a few minutes with a musket.
Is it my OPINION that the Supreme Court only granted the individual right to own a gun in 2008? Is the fire rate and destructive force of an AR 15 my OPINION? Is availability of assault weapons my OPINION? Is it my OPINION that many claim they need assault weapons to overthrow their own government? Is it my OPINION that the good guys with guns didn't stop the latest school massacre? Is it my OPINION that the Texas gunboy bought his assault weapons and ammo legally and that he was a law abiding citizen until he killed everyone and no amount of background checking would have stopped him from buying those weapons as they are readily available and even if he failed the background checks he could have just bought them at some gun show or off of a neighbor or out of state? Is it my OPINION that there are thousands of mentally ill people who never kill anyone? I never claimed guns are the fault of anything. How can a gun be at fault, you are anthropomorphizing inanimate objects. I continually state that the availability of assault weapons is a problem due to their destructive nature. You don't see me claiming nuclear bombs are at fault for anything because they aren't readily available! And again you claim that, for some reason, if the government restricts access to destructive items that are killing children in their own classrooms, somehow that arbitrarily infringes on YOUR rights. You can't seem to understand that those children might have a right to attend school without being killed by something you really have no need for, other than to overthrow your own government or "defend" your precious life as if it's more valuable than theirs.
Thanks for your concern I guess, but I don't. My little corner of the planet is full of peace, love, happiness, empathy, good will and faith that tomorrow will be better for everyone. And a serious amount of sweat and sawdust.
In 1977, at 13yo, I got my first firearm. 22cal. Remington bolt action. I've still got it. A semi automatic ar15 fires no faster than my auto loading Mossberg shotgun. As quick as you can pull the trigger. The destructive force is based on the mass of the projectile and its velocity. An ar15 fires one of the smallest projectiles made at fairly high velocity. A 12ga.slug at much slower speed is way more destructive. Anyone who thinking ar15 is an assault weapon or that they're going to overthrow the United States government with it is of the absolutely wrong opinion. I wish they could stop them all, unarmed they definitely can't. That kid from Texas was known to the police for having said he was going to do exactly what he did two years earlier. He had no business owning or possessing any firearms. Some of your opinions I consider wrong, some I agree with. Your focus on the miniscule issue of mass shootings, as grievous as they are, while ignoring the huge issue of gun violence and constantly suggesting laws that will only affect law abiding people (because the nuts don't care)is why I, despite it being a little uncomfortable, voice an opinion that doesn't goose step with the majority here.
When we talk about "homosexuality" out of context it becomes a question of do I have to be homophobic to not be "gay"? most people don't openly express their desires or manifest those 'instincts'. I have chosen to reject the reality an open mindedness would provide for me... Kudos to me. Guns? Yes to guns, no to gun culture. Change the culture.
Then how did you get to be you? Your posts certainly don't reflect peace, love, happiness, empathy, good will and optimism.. You seem insecure, fanatical, and unable to tell a logical argument from a specious one.
I made my living for many years doing research that included the use of statistical tools. This post is so far in violation of proven statistical tools it is below the level of trash. First the CDC did NOT state that VAERS indicated 20,622 people died from Covid vaccines. VAERS does not look at cause and effect. The reported deaths are not researched to link death to the Covid vaccine. It only shows that a death was reported sometime after receiving the vaccine. No attempt is made to verify the vaccine as the cause of death. Death could be related to shaving or eating red apples! Nobody knows. The HHS does not even verify the reports….who do you think might have a vested interest in filing a report. Conspicuous anecdotes are not research no matter how much moose drool some spew. The conspiracy theory anti vaccine crowd certainly has been vociferous over Covid and that certainly could account for more reports for the Covid vaccine than the other common vaccines. It’s a sad how a communications tool, the internet, has been responsible for so much crap from the right being touted as “fact”. If you are interested in verifying this check the HHS caveats on VAERS.
As you see no difference between a Mossberg shotgun and an AR 15, I'm sure you will have no problem with the banning of AR 15s as the shotgun will still be available. As you feel there is no difference between a Mossberg shotgun and an AR 15 I'm sure you will be able to tell me why the AR 15 is standard military issue and the Mossberg is not (I know shotguns have military use, but they are not a primary weapon. Seems they are mostly used to shoot locks off of doors as they have limited range and can't penetrate body armor). A shotgun has an effective range of about 100 yards, an AR 15 ranges from about 550 yards with 0.223 caliber rounds to 1,750 yards with .50 BMG rounds. A Mossberg 500 holds five rounds in its magazine which are loaded one at a time, an AR 15 can hold up to 200 rounds. Standard magazines can hold from 10 to 30 rounds and multiple magazines may be preloaded for easy replacement as one is emptied. With a Mossberg you can fire up to 6 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger, with an AR 15 you can fire up to 200 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger. Here's a civilian AR 15 with a bump stock which only requires you to pull the trigger once: Assault weapon is a legal term. An AR 15 is labeled an assault weapon by several jurisdictions. The military version of the AR 15 is, indeed, an assault rifle. Many believe they need weapons such as an AR 15 to overthrow their own government. That kid from Texas had no previous convictions that would have prevented him from buying the guns that he bought. He was a law abiding citizen and the law could not have stopped him from buying those guns. I wasn't aware that I was focusing on mass shooters, not that that is a minuscule issue as we have had 246 this year as of June 5, 692 last year, and 417 in 2019.
I'm not absolutely sure, but I'd guess it started with two great parents who made sure I wasn't afraid of hard work or having to dust myself off and try again armed with what I've learned. I also can't say for sure why you see someone you know nothing about a certain way, but from the things you say I'd guess your views are clouded by whether they share your opinions or not.
It's a meme, not a research paper I did. If you say the sources cited are incorrect, I'll believe you before I fact check it.
I see you're making things up again... I never said there's no difference between an ar15 and a Mossberg 940. I pointed out that auto loading is auto loading regardless of the projectile and without saying it that any sane person would rather get shot by a .225 cal bullet than a 12ga. slug. Not that wanting to be shot is sane, before you make that leap. The Armalite Rifle company (makers of the ar15) do not sell any firearms to the US or any other military. Mossberg & Sons do. Their pump action shotgun Isa US military standard. My Mossberg 940 will hold 9 shells if I want. The largest staggered box type magazine for an ar15 will hold 30 rounds. Bump stocks are illegal, and frankly are just another way of pulling the trigger but without using your finger. If ever there was a red flag, it's a teenager saying "I'm going to shoot up my school ". Why that kid had access to firearms is beyond me. My main point with all the replies here is to show that while you have some valid opinions, not everything you think you know is correct. The things you're not so knowledgeable about could be one of the reasons we see things differently.
Also... Anyone who thinks they're going to overthrow the government outside the voting booth is an idiot. In reality, the ones who think the voting booth will do it are probably idiots too.
One last thing... Just in case 9 rounds in your shotgun won't get you there. 590M® Mag-Fed Detachable Magazine - 20 RND
You pointed out that "A semi automatic ar15 fires no faster than my auto loading Mossberg shotgun. As quick as you can pull the trigger." All I did was likewise post some other information in regards to both guns. You do agree there is a difference between the two? The damage done by a .225 and a 12 ga. varies depending on a number of factors. For example I would much rather be hit by a 12 ga. at 100 yards than a .225. So what? The Mossberg is not a primary weapon for a reason. Okay 9 rounds if you want to vs. 200 rounds if you want to. Why do restrict yourself to a staggered magazine? As bump stocks were recently banned and the nation hasn't fallen to totalitarian control by its own government and as it has been deemed legal to ban them as per the 2nd...I assume you have no trouble with a ban on other types of weapons and accessories? He had access because he was a law abiding citizen who was legally allowed to purchase those guns. Geez, I hope no one ever gets the idea that everything I post on here is absolutely correct. That's why I try and do research. Please point out all those erroneous facts I posted such as in post number 1856
But that doesn't explain where they went wrong. Or was it genetics? Your propensity for specious arguments and twisted thinking suggests that all is not well.
A one off franken-rifle shouldn't be used in a discussion about what's available. There's quite a few machinists that could make a howitzer and shells in the basement, but it's not really an issue.
