Of course you neglect the fact that most mass shootings are committed by those with no prior criminal record.

Although it's seldom articulated, I suspect that a major reason for all the guns is the widespread belief, especially in right-wing circles, that they will be needed in an impending Armageddon-style battle between the "Forces of Light" (white MAGA Retrumplican Christians) and the "Forces of Darkness" (Antifa, Democrats, racial minorities, Jews, & SJWs). Since the Forces of Light have most of the guns, they're expected to win. I'm afraid this fantasy might become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I think most of the gun owners don't envision themselves the aggressors in these encounters, but are simply concerned about defending their homes when t"he grid goes down" and the mobs start looting. Even so mild mannered, seemingly rational dude like Ted Koppel wrote Lights Out telling folks that grid failure is not a matter of if but when. The "preppers" probably outnumber the survivalists, but none of them think the civil authorities are up to the job of protecting them. I recall having this discussion with my MAGA buddies. The consensus was that guns will do for awhile, but we need crossbows for the long run.

Hope I am not mistaken, but I think you are from Norway.

You might find these articles on the Norwegian serial killer Anders Behring Breivik insightful...

Camila Alves McConaughey, wife of actor Matthew McConaughey, holds a pair of shoes worn by Maite Rodriguez, one of the victims of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, as her husband makes a passionate plea for gun reform at White House press briefing.
McConaughey said she wore them because of her love of nature and described how she wanted to become a marine biologist. He spoke of how the small shoes -- with a heart on the right toe -- were the "only clear evidence that could identify her."
"These bodies were very different," he said of the 19 children and two teachers killed. "They needed extensive restoration. Why? Due to the exceptionally large exit wounds of an AR-15 rifle. Most of the bodies were so mutilated that only DNA tests or green Converse could identify them." https://abcn.ws/3GZik6p

Ok, I will recap my points, maybe go into a little more details for some:

    - I disagree that totally disarming citizens, is the answer. Too many booger-eaters out there doing bad things and have weapons when they do
these bad things. Law abiding citizens should be allowed to continue to protect themselves. The police can’t always be there when you’re getting your ass stomped!

    - No longer allow citizens (no matter what age) to purchase AR15s or any other semi-automatic assault weapons, specifically designed to be used by the military or law enforcement.

    - Open carry should have requirements similar to concealed carry. Open-carry should be forbidden at protests and riots. I can’t stand the sight of people standing there shouting with fucking rifles, helmets, body armor- WTF! Go home with that bullshit!!

-Those that have legally purchased or were given AR-15s as a gift, should have to register these weapons, and if they are caught with unregistered weapons, even on their own property - impose fines and jail time!

    - There’s simply not enough law enforcement to go door-to-door
and gather up all the AR15s, bad idea! As a matter of fact, you will have law enforcement who WON’T DO IT!!!

    Thanks
    My response:
Nobody is suggesting a total ban of all guns.
As the civilian version of the AR 15, et. al, aren't designed for military use I would include those types of weapons as assault rifles with selective auto or single fire that are designed for the military are already highly regulated and generally unavailable to the public.
I agree with the proviso that concealed carry permits are way to easy to acquire. There should be a HIGHLY demonstrable reason for concealed or open carry. You should have to have a reason to need to carry a gun in public such as transporting a large cash payroll, documented threats against your person, or some such reason. Not that you're afraid of walking into the local bagel shop because of something you heard on the news.
And the weapon should be confiscated and destroyed.
First of all if a law enforcement officer refuses to do their legal job they must be fired and forbidden to ever become an officer of the law again. A national data base of corrupt law enforcement agents should be enacted. When I taught I could be fired at any time for insubordination.

Second no one is suggesting a door to door search of every house in the country to find weapons.
The declared illegal weapons would be eliminated by buy backs, voluntary surrender, and heavy jail time and fines for those caught with those weapons through exposure during daily life and activities.
Also the banning of the sale and transfer of ammunition used by those weapons should be enacted. Sale of ammunition of the same type used by legal guns such as hunting rifles would be highly regulated and documented and limited to very low volumes of purchase. You only need a few bullets every year to hunt deer.
Same with reloading equipment and supplys.

I agree with all that you proposed except that concealed carry permits being way too easy to acquire. They don’t take the background checks very lightly. No slack when it comes to that part of the process- at least it’s that way where I’m at. But you know what? There’s some concealed carry instructors out there that are pretty shitty. Shitty because they don’t cover the material that they should, some aren’t proficient at teaching weapons handling and safety, and some don’t even know their own weapons. SAD!!!

Part of the problem is this varies from state to state... That's why the push for a federal background check system. But the GOP doesn't want that because it's socialism or some shyt.

By not allowing them to be sold.

Exactly. This begs the question, why are there not any female mass shooters? hmm.

Back around the time of Y2K I worked at a company with a guy in his twenties. He was arming himself because he was convinced that black gangs from Compton were going to come to his house and attack him. Thinking was not one of his characteristics. If Y2K has occured, the infrastructure would have been compromised. How were these gangs going to get to his house?
Note: Compton was quite aways from where he lived.

Yes, and the wide availability of guns makes that possible. When the televised House committee hearings start tomorrow evening, we may get a better idea of who "these folks" are. Apparently, they included members of two large militia-style organizations: the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers, whose representatives met in a parking garage to coordinate activities of the two groups. There seem to have been at least ten other similar groups involved.

Three Percenters, with their Revolutionary War-style flags, who think that only an armed 3% of the populations was enough to bring about the first American Revolution; the Neo-Nazi NSC-131; No White Guilt, whose name pretty much speaks for its racist orientation; the Boogaloo Boys, identifiable by their colorful Hawaiian shirts, determined to start a second Civil War or American Revolution; the anti-government "Rise Above the Nation"; Cowboys for Trump, a pseudo-western group dedicated to the personalistic cause of supporting their Leader, the Orange One; the Texas Freedom Force; Kekistan supporters, an outgrowth of the 4-chan community; QAnon inspired groups and individuals, like the colorful QAnon Shaman; the neo Confederate League of the South (or at least its founder); Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, head of the “Groyper Army", and a few other neo--Nazi and neo-Confederate groups leftover from the 2017 Charlottesville riots. I've forgotten the pen name of that dude with the skeletal avatar who posted here in the weeks before the event promising that something really big was going to happen. He disappeared quickly after the riots. Students of the rise of Fascism and Nazism in Europe before W.W. II remember the prominence of similar militias, Mussolini's Black Shirts and Hitler's Brown Shirts being memorable examples. Guns + organization= political violence. Yet despite the FBI's warnings, Retrumplican senators block efforts to do anything about the threat of domestic terrorism.

The other AR15s that are already out there (by the millions) and especially the ghost gun kits that were bought on the internet. Those are the ones I’m describing.

And that’s what this really about. Not the government coming to take their guns away, but more so, arming themselves against angry black men.

Here in PA you need to be 21, download an application, fill it out, take it to the local sheriff's office, show a driver's license, have your picture taken, pay a fee, pass a background check, and you may be able to leave with a license immediately. No reason for needing a permit is required, no safety training, no need to even know what a gun looks like.
Anyone of the recent shooters, if they had been 21, could have received a carry permit.
