Actually they do. At one time you had the right to own slaves, but as technology changed, such as the cotton gin, you lost that right.

So what you're saying is that guns can't kill people? I thought the primary purpose of a gun was to kill.

Over the past two years I've read dozens of accounts of children who have gained access to unsecured guns, and have either shot a parent, a friend, or a sibling.

Do you believe the parents should still be allowed to possess a firearm?

Again, you're going to shoot your own government officials if they come to take away...oh, let's say your illegal machine gun?

Why is it too late? Why can't they be confiscated if allowed by law? Why can't there be a buy back program? Why can't illegal guns or those used in a crime be destroyed? Why can't the gun manufacturers be required to contribute to a buy back program?

Or how about this: remember when Trump signed an executive order requiring that “for every one new regulation issued, at least two prior regulations be identified for elimination”? Remember how all the Republicans and Trumpsters thought this was the greatest thing since sliced bread? Think of it, eventually there would be no regulations at all!!!!
So why not require that for every gun sold either privately or by retail or wholesale, two guns must be destroyed?
Think of it, eventually there would be no guns at all!!!!

Nothing quite says 'failed state' as eloquently as awarding posthumous medals for heroism under fire to ten-year-olds while reveling in our thanatotic gun fetish.

Why? Because those are extreme and radical measures that will only cause responsible gun owners to become rebellious gun owners. Buy back programs won’t get them all off the street- the government won’t offer what you paid for the damn things, and not everyone will turn these weapons in. Drug traffickers aren’t going to turn their weapons in, extremist groups, “doomsday preppers”, etc., would rather illegally posses them over turning them in. You can make it illegal to own these assault weapons if you want, but just like anything else that’s “illegal” - people still have it, sell it, steal it, etc.

What does that leave the people who already have these assault weapons- that abide by the rules- why and how can you take from them? That will be their argument, and that continues to be a political argument.

In an attempt to show its okay to infringe on that which can't be infringed are you saying Eli Whitney is the reason slavery was ended and not that it was morally outrageous?

A firearm is a tool that extends a person's range. Like car can help you travel to a store farther away, a firearm can let you feed your family with the meat on the other side of the field. Both get used irresponsibly at times.

I do not put much credit in surveys,

    https://americangunfacts.com/gun-ownership-statistics/

32% of Americans say they personally own a firearm according to the 2021 National Firearms Survey. This means that more than 81.4 million Americans own guns. This number only includes adults over 18. When you include family members who live in their same household as a gun owner, that number jumps to 41% of all Americans. Gallup has this figure estimated at 44% of households.

This means 68% of Americans are at risk from being killed or injured by somebody else’s weapon. Living in a home when someone owns a weapon significantly raises the risk of gun inflicted injury or death.
