Good then you know why the 223 was named 5.56 by the military and that NATO wanted more performance from the original 5.56 ammunition.

Yeah, my point was the Ar 15 originally used the .233 and the M16 originally was an AR 15.

You do not see that suicide by gun is more prevalent than murder ?

This just in. Gun owners who think that they are defending freedom, and stopping the government from taking their rights away should think twice.
    I hope mcme understands this.

I would like to see assault style weapons banned. But then we would have an illegal assault rife issue.

I imagine smugglers would adapt, it would be a small market though.

The market for Illegal hand guns is much larger and much less commented upon and just as scary.

So what, now we have an illegal and legal assault weapon problem. (As assault weapons are outlawed in some jurisdictions, even though we have the 2nd)

But I agree about the handguns.

Concealed Carry Skyrockets Among Philadelphia Women

Concealed carry is skyrocketing among Philadelphia women as the city’s crime wave continues to surge.

CBS Philly reports, “Philadelphia gun violence … is leading to a sharp increase in female gun owners.”

They noted that women began flooding into concealed carry classes as crime rose last year. As a result, concealed carry permit applications from women outpaced men “51 percent to 49 percent.”

In 2021, the number of concealed carry permits skyrocketed to 70,790.

Incompetent, Irrelevant and Immaterial”! (that's lawyer talk for "so what"?)
    • Homicides in the same period totaled 19,384 – about 50 each day. So the number of suicides is impressive, but the number of homicides isn't chopped liver. Do you think that because suicides are more prevelent, it somehow makes homicide insignificant?
    • "Suicide is painless. It brings on many changes." ( M . A. S . H.) Homicide and mass shootings--not so much!
    • Suicide is ordinarily regarded as a Bad Thing.
    • Compared to fish in the sea, grains of sand on the beach, or blades of grass, the number of total human deaths is minuscule--from which we might conclude human life is insignificant, or that the comparison is irrelevant
    • The Gun violence Archive counted 3382 mass shootings in 2015-2022, with over 250 in 2022 (and 2022 is only half over); that seems like a lot of mass shootings to me.
    • For a visual database of the body count from mass shootings, see Every mass shooting in the US – a visual database.
    • Mass shootings seem to be a largely an American problem. While the United States has about 5% of the world’s population, it had 31% of all public mass shootings. Why? Because the U, S. has more violent and/or crazy people than other countries? Probably not. Because of the ready availability of guns? Seems likely. Why Does the U.S. Have So Many Mass Shootings? Research Is Clear: Guns. (Published 2017)
    • Mass shootings are only a small fraction of the total number of deaths from gun violence (Thank God). But they're disturbing, like acts of terrorism, because they happen unpredictably, in schools, places of worship,, grocery stores, concerts, shopping malls--giving us the idea no place is safe!
