My best friend is a Muslim trans woman. And when she gets harassed out in public, it's not for being Muslim...
I see many people, men and women, wearing a cross on a chain around their neck. People wear their religious beliefs in the form of visible tattoos on their bodies. Others in the way they dress. While there is some harassment it is minimal. But have a person display the gender they identify with which is out of the norm they open themselves up to being chastised about it.
I'm not Muslim, but you would always be welcome to perform salah in my presence. I'd be honored to provide overwatch to keep you safe, and to preserve all our rights to freedom of religion, freedom to peaceably assemble, freedom of speech, right to due process and equal protection under the law.
I am Muslim. I pray. I know God. I have faith. I am proud. And I love my spirituality. I don't know that I would exhibit my prayer that way, but I'd be more than able to convey my trust in the path of Muhammad, and my faith in Allah's direction for my life and my future. When I am in public, I am careful about outward displays of religion because it is my heartfelt truth and understanding that sees a dilemma; not everyone agrees, and at the lowest common denominators it actually comes back as some kind of retaliation to other Muslims, online and other places in my area, or even other parts of the world. It's hard to be devout without making a scene or somehow subjecting others to something I take immense pride in. But I find incredible solace in my own quiet Islam. And I have love there, and I'm at peace so I'm grateful. Thank you for the invitation! If I had something to share it would be that anyone can seek spiritual enlightenment. If you seek it here, I can promise you you'll have satisfaction with what you find. And if not, you're sure to find it anywhere you look! May Allah enrich your receipt of this message!
It all depends by what is meant by "outwardly religious". Allowing others to know what beliefs we have is for the most part socially acceptable, but I disagree with flaunting one's beliefs.
Mmmmmm... Try living as a Mormon in Afghanistan and tell me how that works out. Sorry, that's stupid. You won't make it to a computer for one update.
Because the Taliban is representative of Islam the same way the Westboro Baptist Church is representative of Christianity. That's stupid. It's the casual racism and bigotry of people like you that makes it unsafe to be outwardly religious in society.
How many fanatical Baptist Christians have take full authoritarian violent control of entire western countries? None huh? States? Cities? Towns even? None huh? Hmmm...
Not that they wouldn’t if they had the chance, And having spent time in an ultra conservative community in the Ozarks I’d have to say your certainty wrong about the cities and towns part….including the violent control part.
Please enlighten me, in which towns around the Ozarks are policed by religious authoritarian fanatics who will behead me in public for wearing the wrong clothes?
Seeing Jews hasseled in Pico Robertson, LosAngeles. Mayor Karen Bass has condemned to harrasment at Adas Torah Synagouge.
