Meh, I'm inclined to disagree. I feel that knocking someone's music taste is kind of paradoxical of free choice. Music speaks to different people for different reasons and chaos is our nature, explaining the multitude of genres.

The only time it's acceptable to criticize someone's music taste is when yours is bashed, as far as I'm concerned. I believe in personal revenge, curse my barbaric ways.

Do you think it would be rude to tell you I don't care what you think about my music?

it isn't rude if the music actually sucks. i'm not referring to things that don't satiate your own particular expectations for music. rather, i'm referring to a person or band that has sub-par skill and sounds like shit. this, obviously, sucks. yet even that is a tricky situation. one must decipher the context in which the music is sucking... it could suck to augment the vibe the band/person is attempting to share.

otherwise, just use a different word in place of 'sucks.' :p

I don't see how it's anyones business to tell someone there tast in music is shit, as music is subjective, different to each person.
I mean, if no one actually liked boy bands they wouldn't be around..

Haha, I thought this discussion would be a bit more one-sided (that is, in favor of mutual respect for other people despite disagreeing with their taste in music).

If listening to a certain artist/song makes someone happy, even if that artist is Justin Beiber or boy bands, what's the problem? Perhaps for you, music is a literary, social, and spiritual experience, but for another person it's simply something to listen to in order to enhance their car ride or their workout. Regardless of its purpose, it seems to me that it shouldn't matter. I feel like Justin Beiber was created by record executives for a specific market-oriented purpose, but if someone else digs his music, well, whatever man. Live and let live.

Would you really be telling them their music sucks in order to help them? Or is it really to make yourself feel content in your ability to judge right and wrong, to feel you have better-than-average perception of great art (i.e., you're better than someone else)?

mike muir of suicidal tendencies said it best in the song "you can't bring me down" These are words to fucking live by

Just cause you don't understand what's going on don't mean it don't make no sense
And just cause you don't like it, don't mean it ain't no good
    And let me tell you something;

    .
    .
    .
And if I offended you, oh I'm sorry...
But maybe you need to be offended
But here's my apology and one more thing...fuck you!

    Cos you...can't...bring...me...down!
    ,
    ,

Can you say "feel like shit"?
Yea maybe sometimes I do feel like shit
I ain't happy 'bout it, but I'd rather feel like shit than be full of shit!

Music is so subjective...as are all forms of art. I feel it's rude to hate on someone's taste. As long as they're not blasting it in my face, I don't give a crap...I might hear something I like along the way.
