Is it ethical to wreck a Pepsi machine at school for a protest?

It wont accomplish what you want it to accomplish. Its pretty normal for Pepsi or Coke to 'buy the rights' at establishments. Never knew it was like that at schools! its not right to have it ins chools, they SHOULD have healthy drink choices, but protest to Pepsi and your school board.

I never drink the shit myself, but by destroying the machine youre preventing other people from drinking something they probably enjoy. thats never good and it would just get people to turn against you.

Well, this is a tough choice. But, it's the choice of a generation.

Wales has just banned junk food vending machines from hospitals.

"Health Minister Edwina Hart says Wales is the first part of the UK to commit to such a move to tackle obesity and diet-related disease."

In my opinion, you absolutely shouldn't harm the machines. It's not the way you want to come off, vicious and destroying property (which will be fixed by the next school day anyway)... just get everyone relatively organized and very VERY determined. I know this can be hard with a group of high schoolers, but don't give up the fight, man. That's the worst thing you can do.

I heard a while back that my old school have removed vending machines from some of the houses. I think it is wise to limit what children eat, but banning things is going slighty far. For my school houses, children will just venture into the towns to buy sweets instead, so unless they search children on return what can they do?!

It all has to start with education, which is why schools should not be promoting junk food to kids. Pepsi should be ashamed of themselves.

I just came from town, and whilst I was in there I popped into McDonalds. Not to eat their shit food, but to have a "single fish". There is a large staircase inside before you get to the "restaurant", and on my way up I passed three underage girls sitting on the stairs smoking a tobacco roll up, rolled up in pink girly rizla. I asked them how old they were and the youngest one was 12, I dunno she was probably lying because she looked younger. I didn't say anything more just walked on, it's really fucking sad.

TBH you se that kind of thing all the time back home in the UK but I have never seen in Holland.

    No. Teach the people instead.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him to fish, and you feed him for life.

Lets be honest here, whats the real problem?
Is it that pepsi is an evil corperation?
or is it that you are a teenager with a biolagical need to act out and destroy?
if you werent trying to be a hippie you would destroy the machine without a second thought.
However, no matter your mindset, you would be wrong for destroying property not your own.
Unless this machine is trying to kill you? I mean, its not following you around with a steak knife and making threats is it?
    Is it Pepsi Bin Laden?

I agree that education is essential, but I am not for banning everything. Moderation is key and this is what children need to know, I mean a fizzy drink or bag of crisps is not the end of the world, but clearly not healthy for children to be living off them. I think schools need to teach a healthy balance and not say you can only eat fruit and veg, because that isn't helpful.

There's nowt wrong with a sweet cold glass of lemonade on a hot sunny day. But when a company like Pepsi creates a monopoly over what drinks are sold at a school something is not right.

Hang on there, no-one is talking about burning the freaking school down. Bear in mind that a lot of these large companies lobby schools to promote their shit, they become "sponsors". Read Captive State by George Monbiot there is an interesting chapter about how that happened recently in the UK.

Point taken. I still say vandalizing it is the better choice.

They will not show anyone the contract, therefore it would take a lot of protesting before the school board is willing to disclose that stuff. So researching where the money is going is not an option, at least not a preliminary option.

If I really needed to act out and destroy something, I would get more satisfaction out of destoying things other than a vending machine.
