Now I do not agree with everything this guy says, but regarding college he really hits the nail on the head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmHoPzDr2SI
not only do they graduate with tons of debt, not know shit, and with no job: they graduate and they *think* they know shit, worst of all. most have been taught to be nothing more than master regurgitators.
Yes, that is the worst thing of all... the arrogance of people who went to college. Not all, mind you, but a fair number. The fact that people associate a college education with intelligence is hilarious. I have found that the more "educated" someone is, the more indoctrinated they are. But that's because education today is nothing more than indoctrination for the most part. It's all about repeat after me, and if you can repeat after me well enough, then that means you must be intelligent. People who are college educated seem to have the hardest time thinking outside the box. If it wasn't taught to them in school, it's irrelevant to them and they won't even consider it.
we really need a smilie that depicts whenever something has gone completely over a person's head.....and the rolleyes one back as well.
I am not arguing that Rap music is not an art form, it is. And I am not arguing that people shouldn't get tattoos. What I am saying is that today many people value Rap (punk, rock, grunge, etc.) music and tattoos more than they value the acquisition of knowledge for self betterment.
Really, Jethro (or is it Virgil)? I actually am quite critical of a lot of the conspiracy garbage that is churned out online. This is why I rail against people like Alex Jones, David Icke, and others who put out sensationalist garbage. If you think I believe every piece of conspiracy garbage that is churned out, then you don't know shit about me. Keep in mind I do not follow conspiracy websites or any of that crap. I read books, many of which were written decades ago.
Then I wouldn't call them well educated. Just as you can gain knowledge on your own without a formal education, so too can you acquire a formal education without gaining any real knowledge. I was in education for over 50 years and I know how the system can be beaten if that is what you want to do. There are lots of ways to cheat, to avoid the hard courses, the various test taking strategies, how to increase your GPA by slight of hand, etc. A true education prepares you by training your mind to think and draw conclusions, to solve problems, to do research, to communicate, and to share what you have learned. Experts are only one resource, a very good resource, but only one on many.
bottom line, a person gets out of school what they put into it. lame cliche but true. True lots of people end up with a degree and a low paying job, but the overwhelming majority of folks making big $$$ also have the education and credentials to command high $$$. A person with a 2.0 GPA from high school isn't going to command much $$$ based on their knowledge or rather lack thereof.
maybe if you spent that time educating yourself in areas that are actually of value and use, you would have a better station in life financially. as MeAgain stated, a true education teaches one to be a critical thinker, to use logic and rational to approach problems. beyond that, why not get a good education if you can? It's your responsibility personally to make something positive and beneficial out of it, not the school's or teachers.
Apparently I went to different colleges than people he knows. He makes a lot of generalizations. All tests are memory based! Beethoven was self taught! Einstein attended the Argovian cantonal school, the Zürich Polytechnic, and he received a PhD in Physics from the University of Zürich. He lectured at the University of Bern and the University of Zürich where he received an associate professorship. He became a full professor at the Charles-Ferdinand University in Prague. He was a professor of theoretical physics at ETH Zurich where he also studied Quantum Mechanics. After that he was the director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics. He was also a member of numerous intellectual societies and lectured extensively at various European and American institutions. And this guy tries to tell us that Einstein just came up with his theories, he didn't really go to college you know, and he never studied anything others had discovered about science.... I stopped watching. Screw the "experts"!
But that can't be because PR always uses the highest levels of logic and rational thought when analyzing such information and always takes the time to research before speaking... ps. I couldn't finish listening to that moron either.
No. And anyone who tells you otherwise is either an uneducated idiot, an undereducated dweeb, or an over-educated liberal arts major.
That arrogance is justified if they make more $$$ than you. How much $$$ do you make boy? I bet it's less than the average college educated person...
And how the fuck do you know what my financial station in life is? To be honest, I couldn't give a fuck less about money. It just shows how dumbed-down and unenlightened the lot of you are. The less money I make, the less money the government steals from me to murder children on the other side of the world. I consider that to be a good thing, because it's less blood I have on my hands compared to some of you materialistic people who base your existence around acquiring money. Making less money forces one to live a more modest and meaningful life.
I don't make a lot of money, but I still manage to survive. I still manage to go out to eat and buy some of things I like. Funny how this is a hippy website, yet all some of you jokers do is base your existence around money. Why are you a hobo if you care so much about money?
Yes and no. Yes: College degrees don't promise you anything to make you more marketable to employers. Much of the time you can graduate with lots of student loan debt that makes you suffer worse. There are in fact lots of pointless college majors and fields that might be interesting to study for a short period of time, are actually counterproductive. Particularly college majors with names like _______ studies. Any major that ends in studies is a waste of effort IMO. No: Because there are many top dollar careers that you cannot acquire without a degree from an accredited university. But you have to know what you want to do and what you want to become in order to get there. Especially in the sciences and STEM fields. In my line of work, I could not have my job without a design degree. However, If I was to go back and redo my life all over again, I would've gone to trade school right after high school so I could acquire a skill that will always be in demand like welding, car repair, auto body, or any job where there will always be a marketable need regardless how shitty the economy becomes. Then I'd go off and try for a more niche field like product design, aviation, or something awesome. I'd be in a lot less student loan debt if only I took that route.
college was the most fun i've ever had. would do again. as far as education, it was pretty meh. but, i didn't really go to a serious school, or take my studies seriously when i was there. i'm curious what i might have learned if i went to a real college and spent a little more time on school and a little less time on parties. grad school was better, but it still wasn't what i would consider a real school.
well you have shared what you do for a living and I can't imagine being the night desk clerk of an old folks home pays much. So far only two of our kids have decided to attend college, one earned a degree in criminal justice and was on course working with the police department and prison system, but got married, is now in Okinawa not doing anything law enforcement related...BUT her college experience and education did open the door for being an English teacher to the Japanese speaking wives on base, start up her own exercise program on base and help develop the elementary school there as well. The other is starting her fourth year with a double major in pure mathematics and chemistry at a prestigious school and has already been getting "headhunted" by different business's and may get to do an internship doing research at John Hopkins. So, you get out of it what you put into it and what you get out of it may not always be what you specifically expected. I never earned a degree, two years but had to drop out due to my mother health. Taking care of my mother at the time was a bigger priority than future $$$$. BUT at least when I ended up in retail I quickly moved into management in every job I've had. Only had one job in my life that wasn't as the guy in charge. How long have you been working where you are at? you should be running the place by now, but oh yeah, I forgot, you spent your reading time studying conspiracies about some secret cabal that has manipulated the worlds economy and people for countless centuries, knowledge that is certainly in high demand and garners a healthy paycheck......LOL
