I used to love Dr. Phil. I used to watch him every single day. Now I'm not so sure. Today there was an episode about a teenage girl who had sex with five men. She's 16 and one of the guys was 21. There were pics and vids and now she's the school slut. She drinks and smokes pot. I had mixed feelings about it. One the one hand, I don't condone underage drinking, drug use of any kind, or even teen sex. On the other hand, big whoop if she's promiscuous. Most of us here are. Meanwhile, he made a huge, huge deal out of it and said the behavior needs to be suppressed immediately. He said she was being exploited, raped, and used because she was molested. It seemed fishy, like a classic case of the sexist double standard. There was another episode with teen boys and 21 year olds who had had sex with triple digit women. They were laughing and joking about players. They were just encouraged to use protection. (They weren't even using condoms). Do you think Dr. Phil is a sexist pig? I see a lot of his shows involve monogamous unions. He never advocates swinging or open marriage, only divorce or monogamy. Do you think he's a prude, a conformist? It seems like his audience is nothing but mindless followers who stick to the rules.
Sounds sexist based on what you said. (although to play devil's advocate young girls...14, 15, 16, whatever-can be taken advantage of (date raped or worse) easier than young men so need to be more careful...) But yes, about your other question(s)-Yes, he's very traditional.
Educational shows, a few sitcoms and movies. No day time stuff or reality stuff either. I don't like day time tv that's loud and about people's crappy lives.
Where I work there are a few hundred employees and it's on in the break room almost daily. Makes for a crappy break.
