well when I create I am releasing so much energy...and it flows....
and that is not pointless.

if I were to create something inspiring
that inspired
then that wouldn't be pointless either.

 

I dont think any form of expression is pointless. It might not speak to you, but it might speak to someone else. There is always a message that art carries with it.

 

Art, the physical being, and not the act of making, is pointless only if you give it a point.

 

Art has it's own existence, whan some artist makes his works he/she is feeling somthing and he/she is explaining the things he/she feels trough it's works, so how can be pointless?

It's very easy to argue that anything is pointless... which makes it a pointless argument.

Life is pointless until you personally create some imaginary points. Art would not be pointless to you if you're an artist, but it might seem pointless to you if you're a plumber.

I personality do not like to argue about the point of things... it always ends up being a never-ending vicious cycle of bullshit.

 

I weep for all the failed artists who end up plumbing to feed their kids.

yes, art is pointless.

perhaps in naivety it is not, but from where i'm standing it is.

 

to answer my own question, sure it is...

I like it better than most things, but sometimes I feel like it's just another activity that serves to indulge one's vanity.

 

if you think about it.. everything is pointless.. unless YOU give it a point.. to me, art is all there is keeping me pleased.. art gives me pleasure, but, what's the point of pleasure? art gives me emotions, now who knows why.. I guess that's one particularity of being human.. who knows. I think people who create art need to communicate something.. whether it is to pass a message or simply vent their inner feelings.. or vent, period.. like.. why do we draw little things without noticing sometimes?

 

You don't have to give it point the artist already give the point... if you don't see the point it looks pointless... but doesn't meens it is.

 

I agree with zen_arcade though (because I hadn't read the other answers until I posted mine) that art can sometimes serve as just another activity to indulge in one's vanity (did I quote that right? hehe) - as in.. something I almost said in my first answer, to show off. Some artists are like that.. I'm not like that though.. well.. I create art without trying to make a point or pass a message.. I just express myself through it, some people express themselves through.. music.. film.. painting.. some people express themselves other ways, non-artistic. When I create anything, I don't feel vain.. more like a little child trying something out and see how it turns out

 

Well... all I know is that the world would be such a mundane place if it wasn't for all of this culture.

Art, being a part of a society's culture, is an essential part of the society. You could argue that society couldn't have developed without art.

There's one for art having a point.

I can come up with the same number of arguments about how art is pointless.

art now a days is pointless, the majority of art produced is pointless
everyone feels "creative" and "passionate" and "inspired"

maybe i'm angry and bitter because i don't feel this way anymore, or maybe i feel this way because now a days every person with a computer can be a fucking artist

base point is now a days anyone with money can be an artist, and that pisses me off

I paint and whan I do it I try to retell my feelings and to pass mesage because art ain't just something nice it is something deeper than that and if someone don't feel it it can never reveild it it can not get to ti's soul and he'll think that it is pointles ... art it is art only if it has soul in it and soul it is not pointless... if we can't see the point doesn't meens it has no.
