Iran has agreed to drastically reduce its nuclear capabilities in exchange for relief from sanctions that have bit hard into the Iranian economy.

The US, UN and EU all have sanctions in place that have prevented Iran from selling oil on the world market and froze $100 billion in Iranian assets around the world.

Now those sanctions will be gradually lifted in return for ongoing inspections of Iran's nuclear sites, dismantling of reactors that can be used to create plutonium.

In addition, Iran must remove more than 90% of its low grade nuclear fuel that could be processed into weapons grade uranium.

The deal must be approved by both Iran's leaders and the respective countries that agreed to this deal.

In the US, Republicans have vowed to reject the deal, but Obama has promised to veto anything that would kill the deal.

Meanwhile, oil prices have started to drop in response, even though it will be months before the removal of sanctions takes effect.

Will this signal a new chapter in the history of the Middle East, or will the Iranians try to circumvent the deal to continue their nuclear weapons program?

Their nuclear weapons program? Could you post something to substantiate that they have a nuclear weapons program?

Yup. The weapons program is a red herring.

Nuclear issues aside,(and probably it is a red herring) I think the west should put more pressure on Iran over their appalling human rights record, and lifting sanctions should be linked to that.

    Yeah, it's a red herring.

And yeah, sure, the West should put as much pressure on Iran as they put on Saudi Arabia and Israel.

I think the west should mind its own buisness for once, meddling in the affairs of others eventually turns out bad.

If every country could only mind their own business, we would have a lot of peace in the world and an upgrade to living standards. But there is no money to be made with minding your own business and peace.
If a country wants to live in a war torn world and not better themselves and their populous, then so be it.

No country doesn't want to better itself and, for the most part, the only countries who want to live in a war-torn world are the ones who profit from war and those countries make sure the war isn't on their own soil.

That was my point in that statement.
It is a bad state of affairs when you are nothing but a hindrance to your Government. All the aid that is sent to regions of Africa where the locals that need it do not receive it, but HEY the Pres of said country is living large in his/her mansion with unlimited Coin and regular wins at the Countrys' election (joke)
IMO the West is to blame for most of the worlds conflicts. Had they just left it at WWII, then the world would be a different place. But again, no money in peace.

You sound genuinely unaware of the West's interference in the affairs of other nations throughout its history. One would think that the invasion and destruction of Iraq, which was based on lies, would give you a clue, but . . . no. At least you offered your rationale for your opinion--"no research required."

Really? I could have sworn that the U.S. had Western allies in the Middle East, Vietnam, Cold War, etc. But if you researched it . . .

Oh yes - we should turn a blind eye while these people behead, amputate and stone in the name of allah. Then we should all drink a coke and feel good that we don't meddle in other people's business.

    Moron.
