Internet People

Many of us here on the internet hide behind our aliases, our pseudonyms. We're different people here, but I see many people in the flesh day to day on the streets. Many seem to be the same, nice folks going about their daily business. Say hello, they'll respond with the same. You come here, to the internet, it's a whole different ballgame, many people are so vocal, so aggressive. You see someone state a simple opinion and they'll be admonished by some of the meanest and most hurtful things you can say to a person. And you'll see these people who seem to say some of the craziest, most outlandish, and offensive things you'll ever hear, and then you realize what you are saying back to these people is just as mean, and that crazy, outlandish, and offensive thing that has been said was a simple opinion. Or perhaps it was a troll? Or maybe you are a troll. And then you see these people who will say just the... weirdest dribble you'll ever see (I'm guilty of this one). You think "My god, the internet is horrible! How can this exist?", well then you realize... you realize that these are the same nice folks see going about their daily business. The clerk, the janitor, the old man, the weedy teenager with his wire frames... and you interact with these people in real life, then online, and you can really see the difference, you can really see the lies, the masks the people wear in day to day life, you see a different mask on the internet, and you begin to wonder if maybe perhaps the only mask they are wearing on the internet is their pseudonym.

 

I try and type the way I would normally speak in real life. I may come across as aggressive or abrupt, but I'm really harmless.
I'm a lot more shy IRL though. I do talk a lot IRL. Talk a lot of shit just like I do here. I don't really see myself as any different here than I am IRL other than perhaps some of the people who don't like me here would probably get along well with me given the chance IRL.

I'm pretty much who I portray myself to be on the internet. Why bother to lie or use subterfuge about anything. It takes too much energy and then you have to keep track of the lies. Bother that.

With, perhaps one exception... to the 'what you see is what you get': My humor is really more along the lines of sarcastic/dry IRL. I try and keep it reined in on the internet because people can't read the inflection in one's voice and it's easy to offend without that audio advantage.

But... if I'm in me cups entirely.. welllll.. hopefully, I don't get online until I'm sober.

 

internet people drive me crazy sometimes, not so much on forums like this where we all have a chance to get to know each other beyond our opinions, but in the comments section for any kind of news article it really is like a demonstration of the worst of humanity.

I dont bother to post commentary on any kind of political or religious article because I know it will take 5 seconds for someone to trash me in the vilest way possible. Contrast that to real life, where a lot of my friends have completely opposite religious and political beliefs and we get along just fine. Its not like we just avoid serious subjects to remain polite either, but we can discuss topics on which we disagree respectfully and with the knowledge that the topic.of.disagreement doesn't define us as humans.

Really? Whether its here or other forums, how many people you assume you'd get on with in real life only to find out you'd hate their guts in real life and vice versa ones you'd assume you'd hate but connect with

And those making comments on news sites are the worst of humanity? More so than human traffickers, ISIL, people that run North Korean or Chinese labour camps?

As far as getting along with people, I get along with almost anybody as long as they're not an asshole. The internet is full of assholes, that's the problem.

 

I have no intention of presenting myself as a trol, however I got the distinct impression that my dry sarcastic sense of humor with some members on a particular forum were not being appreciated. I can see how easy it is for someone to misread my humorous comments directed at members as just to clever for their own good, and thus not see the funny side to them. I think some people totally misread funny comments on forums and automatically assume they are being trolled, when in fact quite the opposite is often true.

 

Trolls aren't the worst, it's the people that think they know everything about philosophy and religion but believe in none of it that are the worst.

 

Really, cos I think philosophy is for people that weren't smart enough to do harder degrees. And religion isnt quite as dumb as astrology or golf, but its pretty dumb

 

Well it's just like, why bother wasting your time arguing things you don't even believe in or agree with. Go spend some time in the garden or something.

That's why I like posting my bullshit because no matter the argument, you still can't prove me wrong. :d

And this infuriates some of the masses. Infuriates. I highly suggest there a few folk here that can't sleep properly at night because they think too much about what I say or need to have an argument with me about something. And I'm just here tooting my own horn having a laugh about it all.

hmm, i don't know. i live in kind of a hick town right now, so i see people going around trying to start fights with any random person in real life too.

Some people post pics and their info and do what they do in person as well as on the net. I think even trolls and fake personas...show them selves. Part of who they are comes through even when they try to hide it.
