How is konqueror? I liked some of the features, but I only had an older version and it was fairly slow.

I've just watched a BBC News Channel documentary to do with the
computer industry. I only managed to grab the last bit of it but I
quite clearly heard that I.E. is better and safer than Firefox. The
general synopsis is that I.E. is more compatible and user friendly,
even more so with the next version of I.E.
I tend to stick with I.E. now, after hearing that.

wha!?!?!? IE, safer than firefox? has the BBC lost it's mind?

you heard wrong.....firefox is far superior to IE in terms of security and ease of use.

plus all the extensions, can't go wrong.

I like the fact that you can have many different windows open with Opera, and still only be running the application once.

Firefox doesn't have that luxury, but it is better than Opera in some ways: it doesn't crash as often, and some websites don't work properly with Opera.

Both of them are WAY better than IE. IE is absolutely horrible in every way imaginable. The frequent crashes, the security flaws, the constant pop-ups...I don't understand how anyone can stand it.

Microsoft Internet Explorer used to be cool but then along came this manly program called Mozilla Firefox and kicked it hard in the nuts!

IE has never recovered, and probably never will.

The BBC is wrong. Very, very wrong.

Yes, I was unsure what the BBC was going on about but
thats what this Hi-Tech boffin said but unfortunately didn't
divulge the reasons. Stopping pop-ups with I.E. is easy if
you know what section to disable within XP. It also goes
without saying you need a good firewall though.
I really need to see the whole programme again to form a
proper synopsis about this. He may have been talking about
    the next version of I.E.?
I too was amazed but I'm only quoting. (still confused)

I think IE will always be more compatible and less secure - it seems like a truism because websites and viruses are both designed for IE.

As much as I like Firefox, it is less compatible. I think the security and extra features make it worthwhile even if the occassional website won't render as well (like i said though, can't convince the flatmates to use it on the home PC - everything "looks different")

As for konqueror, i can't say its much different than any of the other linux open source browsers i have tried, e.g. mozilla. i use it because is came installed on mandriva and i am too inept to install any other software.

I've had Firefox since February and haven't had a single problem with spyware. I still use I.E. occasionally, and it's not unusual to pick up 15-20 pieces of spyware in a half hour.
