But most kids these days already know computers. Even before they ever touched one. My mom has tried really hard to learn the computer, but she can't grasp it. She can check her mail, and surf the web and all, but beyond that she's totally useless.

Verizon FiOs son. I used to have optimum but FiOs is faster for me.

 

That is so wrong. I had dsl and it was slow. I have comcast high speed cable and its WAYYY faster. Just go onto some website it'll tell yah.

No that's also not true, we have both DSL and wireless cable at my house, my computer uses the DSL and when my friend brings his laptop over it's just ironic how he has faster internet then me. On the flip side though he has cable at his house and his internet often works a hell of alot slower then my DSL does, put on with the fact he's using his internet on a much better and faster computer then I am.

 

You are aware that internet through cable comes at different speeds depending on the price you want to pay. So does DSL but DSL has a lower limit than cable.

 

ya I get 12. I think this is fast, a whole gb movie downloads in 15-30 min sometimes, depending on the seeders

 

I get 10mb/s and a movie with lots of seeders d/l's in about the same time as you.

 

No his does that because of connection, that's why I said often, and it's not a lose wire in the house problem type of deal, because when it happens for a long time they'll call the company and they'll fix it from there. Also though you're forgetting you can pay more/less for what speed you want, but the average person doesn't do that vs just taking the general plan.

 

If you read my post you will notice I did say you can pay for the speed you want. DSL isn't able to reach the same speeds as cable.

I had dial-up for so long. Absolutely horrible. Now I have cable - I forgot the speed of it, but i believe it was the middle option - neither the slowest nor the fastest. It's fast as shit though. It's not that uncommon for me to download stuff at 500 or even 1000k per second, but of course that is not the norm.

 

Ok nate.. I just did the modem speed test and www.modemspeedtest.com

And my speed is just one down from the highest cable speed. After that it's t1.

This is my dsl speed: 1273.8 kbps

 

Just did the test also and...."4749.7 Kbps - You" Guess my cable is about 3.7 times fater then dsl.

this is my results from that speakeasy speedtest. i only have 5meg service so i dont understand why the download speed seems so high but thats what it gives me.

Download Speed: 33584 kbps (4198 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 479 kbps (59.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

 

what u get for 80$ a month i suppose :/
