this sounds like a great soul searching trip. I've always wanted to do something like this and now that I'm in college its a little more possible. It all kinda depends on what months you are planning the trip to be on. I hope this plan is still in motion. my aim is flow1n420

    my email is anewawareness@gmail.com

i wonder how much a bus would be $ wise? As for east coast i think asheville would be a good meeting place. as for time i think early summer, may/june. maybe earlier depending on the condition of the bus, i will assume it needs outfitted.

just some ideas to get the ball rolling.

i'd love to come too, I don't mind if things get rough and we run out of gas or food, we'll figure it out. I just want to be around like minded people.

You only really know what she has to give when you run out of survival techniques.

i just read this post, all the way though. lol hi my names john and im a 60 yr. hippie. i lived in a free hostel in sana fe n m in the 70 tees. we had a free hotel and had about 30 members. we did real well with donation of food and s s for the women with kids. it was some of the best time in my short life. heres my idea, i dont have a bus but do have a trailer with a 16 ' tee pee. i also has a river lot in ind. to make money i have several kayaks that are rented by the day. its easy money but only in the summer. im going to be there the frist of april, and staying for 2 weeks, if anyone wants to hang out to talk about being off grid, ht me back. and hope you follow your visons. peace

I actually joined this site specifically looking for a commune, a family, a place to call home. I have a lot of ideas, and skills. I contact juggle, spin poi, I'm a healer, and I have a degree in marketing with minors in Engineering Sciences. I am currently living in Florida, but I am willing to relocate anywhere. I don't have much to offer in ways of material things (especially money), but I have my car and me. If you, or anyone else on here has any information on this or any hippie commune, please let me know!!! Thank you so much :).

    Love and light

So this thread is still truckin.

I still plan on going through with this idea - hopefully to leave in about two years from now, as per the original thoughts. But I'm left with a bit of an impasse.

I'd love to give in to the romantic notion of throwing myself to the wind and just hoping good karma, pure hearts, and a little luck will be enough to make things work out alright...but I can't quite get my faith behind that concept. If I was going alone, maybe, but obviously the whole idea is for a bunch of people. Hopefully beyond myself and my ladyfriend, there will be several folks from here, my local area, and other online spots I've mentioned this. So that's the rub. I don't want to get this thing all started and have it trainwreck right away.

I get the whole "you have to try" line of thought; but I want to give it more than a good try - and I've got no clue where to start. Due to life being what it is, we've not saved much of anything yet - and I don't foresee any big windfalls between now and 'launch'. I'm not too sure how to go about finding honest, temporary, under-the-table sorta work, nor have I the foggiest on how to handle things like taxes or vehicle registration/licenses or medical issues in this sort of situation, and I sure as hell don't want to end up panhandling.

Beyond that, and much to the chagrin of a lot of people, neither my girl nor I is terribly interested in this being some sort of drug-fueled party romp. We want to do this to get away, explore, adventure, and live life on better terms - not to be constantly wondering if we're going to get stopped/raided/busted for this or that, and so on.

I've looked into established communes, but haven't found any that are on the east coast(though suggestions are welcome). I'm certainly happy to look at the idea of jumping in with some group who have been at it for a while, or to at least get some advice.

So let me know what all of you think.
