    For fuck's sake, man...

Don't take the Christian road and use the line "It's all chance". That's NOT what it is.

We don't need some invisible sky entity to explain what we can't YET.

You sound like a pantheist (which I could understand much more, btw), but I cannot accept "God did it" as an explanation to anything.

Why do volcanoes erupt? Volcano gods.
What is thunder? The voice of the gods.
Where did the universe come from? God made it.
    Etc..etc..etc...

    Mystical bullshit.

Quantum Physics does not prove "God" exists.
Quantum vacuum potentials are NOT "unmanifest spirit".

If you assert that all transcendent values are just as amorphous as the concept we call God--that they are based on the intuition and experience of those who assert them, then I could accept that we may have something to discuss. But, "sky daddy"? Nah.

How did the Universe get here? CHANCE DID IT!
How did the Earth get here? CHANCE DID IT!
How did Life get here? MAGIC BOWL OF SOUP MEET LIGHTNING CHANCE!

    Requires even less thought.

Actually there is a big difference on the other issues:
Where did Ethics come from: NO MATTER
What should we know? NO MATTER
WHere are we going? NO MATTER
Is there Right and Wrong?NO MATTER

    Geez.. Atheists have it EASY.
So easy that they have time to sit around worrying about what some other group is NOT doing or how they are NOT like them.
    Woopee.

    Intellectual Laziness

    The point has been made.

The fact is that quantum mechanics has caused the demise of material realism... now if only all the religions would get behind it, admit it's all about one cosmic consciousness beyond and within all... the creator and the created, and all religions are vaiable paths towards it's realization.

    Only god,

it's only god... called by many different names, Nirvana, Self, No-Self, the nameless, the formless, braman, atman, shiva, krishna, allah, Christ, and so on.

    Still only god.

Christianity is the religion that simplifies things this much, not atheism. But I can see why you stick to your simple christian beliefs since you obviously can't conceptualize or comprehend why one wouldn't believe in god, or how one would still have ethics and morals without needing a god to give it to them.

If you need the threat of a higher entity's wrath to keep you a good person, or you need a higher entity to give you purpose in life then it is probably a good thing you are a christian. We don't all need a crutch, though...

You have a fucked up view of evolution and cosmology, buddy, if you think it's all about "chance".

Oh and ... we don't need an invisible man in the sky to hand down "morality". It's common sense that a society of thieves and murderers wouldn't last, and it is in society's best interest to practice ethics--not everyone does obviously, but that is life. :)

    Use your noggin, son.

Being as I do not believe in a God, let me answer some of the questions you posed:

How did the universe get here? Through an extremely long, extremely complex chain of events, the beginning of which is unknown.

How did the Earth get here? Most likely great amounts of hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, and other simple molecules clumped together around a star, and condensed into more complex molecules.

How did Life get here? Bowl of molecular soup meeting lightning, pretty much. Lightning was pretty common back then too, MUCH much more common than it is today.

Where did ethics come from? It makes sense that cooperation is a better survival strategy than competition, and through millions of years of evolution, it also makes sense that we should have such a sense of ethics and communication skills that will allow us to more easily cooperate.

What should we know? What is practical.

Where are we going? Around the sun. Also, wherever we decide we want to go.

Is there right and wrong? Of course. It's all in the eye of the beholder, but some people just dont' really care.

Notice, I didn't answer "by chance" or "no matter" to any of the questions. And I didn't spend an hour thinking of detailed, more accurate answers either.

If you really believe that atheists answer questions as vaguely as "by chance" or "no matter," then I propose that many theists would answer the questions a bit like this:

How did the Universe get here? It was created by a God through an extremely complex and long chain of events, and His beginning is unknown.

How did the Earth get here? God took great amounts of hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon, and lumped them together around a star, and condensed them into more complex molecules.

How did Life get here? God made us out of a primordial soup of mud.

Where did ethics come from? God created us with a sense of ethics and communication skills, so we could survive and get along, because it makes sense that we should cooperate and not compete.

What should we know? What God thinks is practical.

Where are we going? Wherever God lets us go, which is pretty much wherever we want.

Is there right and wrong? Of course. But some people mix the two up, and some people just don't really care.

Notice here in both these answers, the existance of God doesn't really have an affect on the answers, other than being added into every sentence.

ok, i just want to say one thing.....
"atheism over-simplified", i guess you could say.....

you think atheists have it EASY?

atheism is the worst thing you could possibly believe in...
    why?
because if you're right, you'll never even know it.... and if you're wrong, you'll be hearing about for all of Eternity...

and yes... i am an atheist

    Its cute really.
Atheists believe, by faith, that there is a Godless Universe.
Ultimately, yes the Naturalist Atheist most certainly does believe complex information has assemble itself 'by chance'.
Calling that a simple description is about right. As right as saying "God did IT' is a simple description of a much more complex concept (more than Naturalism too)

To prove out the laziness of an Atheist you only need to ask them why they believe, by faith in a Godless Universe.
Their answer: Well, You dont see a Spacial being do you?
    Wow!
Do they ever get up off their brains to build that God-Finding Machine and launch it?
    No.
Sorry Carl Sagan Fan Club but Science and reason simply dont allow your loser beliefs in a Godless Uni to work anymore.
However.. maybe if you actually did something besides pointing at what superior belief systems do NOT have ... you might get somewhere.
Otherwise, its fun to think of you wackos in 70's retrospectives and such.

The burden of proof is on the claimant. "God" is a claim made by theist. As an atheist I "disbelieve" in such an entity because there isn't enough evidence to support the claim in my view, thus the burden of proof is on you.

    First, define "God".
Second, prove that belief in such is more applicable to reality and logic than non-belief in such an entity.

And please...don't make the mistake of asking me or any atheist to "prove their is no God", because that is a logical impossibility. You cannot "prove their is no God" any more than you can "prove their is no invisible pink unicorn". It is a Universal Negative.

:) - So, until you can those two things I asked, all your ranting is of no value.

Don't trust the almighty Hikaru Zero, he is into swords, he may cut us... watch out for that dude, look at how happy he is when he has a weapon of violence and destruction.

And Libertine, obviously an ego head, and I understand man, I've been on quite a few ego trips in my time to...

But it's not worth it... It's time to DIE, DEATH IS THE SOLUTION, KILL THE EGO, and find out your TRUE BEING.

    YOU ARE GOD!

Come on guys get on this BUS

    get it?

    B-US

    BE US

    It's all US

    We are God

God is all, all is God

Let's call it cosmos, or yoddle, it doens't matter what you call it

Quantum mechanics proving it certainly helped.

    Come on join US

On this BUS it's all US, and we are IT

The solution is realizing this oneness, then the world will function as one like a hive of bees, a hive mind where everybody shares a group mind where all the thoughts are shared. It will evolve it is inevitable...

If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

And the Ganja Prince... please kill him, this ego must die... please please, more death... because you kill it once, it comes back...

Ahh it's all such a cosmic joke. woohoooooooo!

Look at the hypocrite squirming around up there.
One one breath you want scientific and logical 'proof' to be involved in the standards and talk
    but
When you think it helps your crap cause in life you want it to rest on legal standards of 'burden of proof' and these ways.

So at least you have admitted that you cannot prove the existance of a Godless Universe.
    Right. You Cant.

Burden of Proof (now we have to stick with 'legal' standards of proof).
Why the hell would you think its on the Theist?
    Its on you.
You want to introduce the old-new idea.
Humans have pretty much been under the impression a God(s) exists since the dawn of civilisation that we know of.
Burden of Proof is yours if its anyones.

As it is, you lucky Theists humour your ridiculous faith in a Godless Universe.. what..lol.. based on just about zero evidence.
At least Theists have evidence of intelligent design in nature, have almost limitless eyewitness testimony (good or bad.. there it is) not to mention the peculiar discovery of a god-shaped vacuum inside and a mind seemingly hard-wired to seek a God in the first place.

What have you got to carry your burden of proof?
    Oh right.. ZERO.

Atheism - The Smartest Kid in Kindgergarten.

You are obviously have very little viable knowledge of science OR logic.

Theism is a claim. (A)theism is doubt (or even denial) of your claim. The burden of proof is on the "claimant", nutsack. It's called L-O-G-I-C.

Of course, NO ONE can "prove there is no God" because it is a universal negative. A little slow, aren't ya? ;)

Actually, Music theory is far better suited to any argument of theological substance. For example, major thirds and minor thirds have no physical existence (. . . if a three falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it . . . ?) but regardless of what you, the musician, "believes" they certainly do exist.

    That may be the funniest thing I have ever read . . . no, really . . . (oh no, now I've said it . . . I've said it again . . . NOOOOOOO . . . HAHAHA!!!!!!!!)

Slow is relative, I am simple.

Hey.. Your the one who still believes in ..lmfao.. 'Evolution'. I woud not be surprised to see you defending Darwinian Evolutionism for crying out loud.
And Atheism is dead.. 30 years ago.

Speaking of L-O-G-I-C... Doubt and Denial are two different positions here. You are not an 'agnostic' but an AntiTheist.
Correct me if Im wrong, then correct that illogical statement
    Thx.

LOL! That IS funny shit! Im glad you understand part of the reason why you cant. The main thing is you admit that you can offer no verifiable 'logical proof' for you belief either.
    Myths are for Kids.
Thats why Evolutionists are only successful when they pedlle their bullshit 'magic soup' myth in the School system first.
By the time they get to your age (around 17 I figure) they dont even know to question it.
    Classic.

Does anybody want to wake up from this dream many take so seriously, this dream that the "I" we all share created, this dream that is US, this dream that is passing like all dreams, already destroyed and created, no time, no space... haven't you been lost long enough? Haven't I been lost long enough?

It is time to surrender, right here and now.

    What are you giving up?

A silly ego trip that good for another few decades at best

What are you giving it up for?

What you always wanted to realize who you are. And that Being fulfills. It can be to the point where you can eat it.

Some mystics have been able to live of sunlight or air... Let us wake up... even if it is slowly...

    anybody with me?

There is a door, and you have the key

    On the door it reads,

    "Magic Theature

    For Madmen only.

    Price of Admission your mind"

Does that mean you have to give up logic?

    Yes

    Rationality...

    Yes

Somebody says, "Even if science, rationality, and logic prove God in quantum mechanics

Doesn't matter still got to give it up...

    Another person shouts out, "bullshit."

It's alright ignore that buffon, he is obviously not ready... perhaps in the next life. It's far to late when they pass away as George Harrison sings, he entered the magic theature, all of the beatles did.

    But... but... I'm not ready...

Don't worry you will get all your logic, rationality and science back... It is very useful and I have great respect for it... many of us go in the magic theature... We are fond of quantum mechanics for it proves that I exist.

Wow, but I still got to give it up before I get it back right?

    You got it!

    I'm still not ready yet

That's ok buddy, some people can't bear the shock, you would laugh too hard you might die.

I think I'll get lost in the dream.

That's ok... go ahead, We will be waiting.

Lots of love to you all, reguardless of whether you walked into the door or not.

The door is still there, can you see it?

I see it now, I think I'm ready.

    Where is the key again?

    It's in you...

Where exactly, my brain my heart...

You are using rationality again, I told you to give that up.

    That's right, you did.

Oh wait, there it is... wow... so I just put it in the hole.

    And turn...

    (A door opens)

    Welcome to the Magic Theature!

You have no idea what I believe. You are attempting (like most Christians) to build a straw man. Unfortunately for you, I don't swallow your shit like some.

I am "atheist" : (i.e. without theism). Now, if you are speaking of an Omni-Max Sky Daddy, I do DENY such a creature. And for several reasons.

Your lack of knowledge of logical fallacies is not surprising. Let me make it easy for you : YOU CANNOT PROVE SANTA CLAUS DOESN'T EXIST, but you CAN make the most reasonable assessment given the facts that we have to determine that it is, indeed, a myth. Same with "God".

Like most Fundies, you are completely ignorant of evolutionary science, cosmology and suck up every lie your Christian apologist tells you. Get an education and come back with a real argument--that is, IF, your mind hasn't been changed by the FACTS first.

i can't prove that unicorns don't exist, but i'm 99.9% sure that they don't. i'm also sure that God doesn't exist, at least not in the traditional theists point of view, but your question was can we prove it?

    no, of course not.

can you prove that God does exist?

by definition every person is born an atheist until which time they have learned, or have chosen a belief. i was born an atheist, and until someone shows be verifiable proof of God, there is nothing that will make me believe

the difference is that i don't go on the christian forums and try to conince them that what they believe is wrong... as far as i'm concerned you can believe in whatever the fuck you want, it is a free country after all .... and yet all the time (and not just on this forum) i am assailed with those who try to 'show me the path', and all other sorts of rightous bullshit that i just don't give a fuck about

  20. In Redponse to the argument between libertine and Erasmus -
This is a uniquely simple statement that no doubt fundamental christians and a few other folks will gobble up in a fury of jargon and philisophical babble:

There is ample scientific evidence of the existence of evolution. It has been documented and proven to occur within a timeframe of a few years.

The existence of God cannot be proven and can only be affirmed through faith. Why should I believe in something instead of something else when only one offers concrete and testable evidence.

    Pretty simple.
