Just saw this one yesterday, and I have to say it was outstanding. Another Quentin Tarentino masterpiece.
Finally, someone who agrees with me. I <3 Quentin Tarentino and have never seen a movie that he was involved in that I didn't like. Aside from Hostile, which was awful, but you could see his style from the violence. I thought he actually stepped it up a bit for Inglorious Bastards. The dialogue was excellent, very clever and sarcastic. I also thought that the cinematography of Inglorious Bastards was done better than in any of his previous films. And Christoph Waltz played his role so well! I hope to own this movie soon. It is one I could watch over and over again.
Directed and written by Quentin Tarantino. Starring Brad Pitt, Melanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Eli Roth, Michael Fassbender, Diane Kruger. This WWII flick is a sort of a rehash of The Dirty Dozen. After a preliminary scene involving the SS on the hunt for innocent Jewish villagers, the plot concerns eight American commandos, only three of whom speak fluent German, dropped into France to kill Germans in general. Most of the film centers on them trapping Nazi brass in a theatre in Paris and then burning it down. The film won an Oscar (Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role) and had lots of nominations, but I can't see why. All the characters, including some high priced talent (Pitt) are made to perform wooden, stereotypical roles. Well, Pitt has a great southern accent here, but so what. The Germans are all unrelieved villians. French and Americans are all heroic. There is graphic violence (bread and butter for Tarantino) such as fatal clubbing, strangling, burning. None of it is particularly believable. Any Russian or Chinese film director could put up an equally ineffective propaganda flick at one tenth the cost of Brad Pitt's take. The acting is good, considering that the actors are following the director's orders -- Tarantino, not the actors, is responsible for the performances. Don't waste your time on this one. Two thumbs down, or zero out of four, whatever.
