just imagine if you were a bartender/server/cook who has to sit there all day long in a place that is filled full of smoke......... and you choose not to smoke, yet that smoke lingers for days. you guys dont realize how much cleaner restaurants/bars are now after they enforced the smoking ban here in my town......... its really odd, though, now..... they tried to repaint our restaurant, and they cant find the right shade that it was before because the smoke changed the paint an awful colour......... what do you think that smoke does to your lungs??
Haha those are pretty standard "large" pitchers.... there's usually two sizes. 60 ounces is about 5 beers- pretty much what every pitcher I've ever gotten was.
Of course it's bad and nasty, but it's not up to the government to tell private business owners what they can and cannot do inside their own business. It should be the owner who makes these decisions, and it's up to the customers whether they choose to eat at a place that permits smoking. Nobody forces people to go out to bars, and most restaurants had smoke-free areas closed off from the rest of the restaurant BEFORE the smoking bans went into effect. What ever happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and PERSONAL FREEDOM?
that is so untrue matt. maybe in nyc, but in kansas, THAT does not happen. smoke free areas in a restaurant bar does NOT work. smoke goes everywhere...
IM not only talking about customers here, besides........... its employees who would be exposed to the air the most. duh! and people would have to work those sections as well that permit smoking. cant you get it through your thick skull?
Anyways..... why shouldnt restaurants/bars be allowed to have smoking ROOMS then? And whatever server/bartender is a smoker can take the smoking room and vice versa... problem solved.
ok, so what if your server/bartender didnt show up that day, and you had no other people who smoked, then what? dont serve anyone who smokes? yeah right, that would fly over like a lead balloon if you had a smoking room, and your non smoking room filled up to capacity, and the smoking room was pretty vacant, or vice versa, an employer would seat non smoking people in the smoking room, or people who smoked in the nonsmoking room, so he/she wouldnt turn people away??
For your first question- exactly. The owner could just close it off if need be. And it would be the same as when there were smoking and non-smoking sections (why am i talking past tense? it's still like that in PA).... a person can chose the smoking ROOM, nonsmoking ROOM, first availible or wait..... if it works with sections, what would be the difference with rooms?
I just love how people that dont work in restaurants think they know the perfect solution about the smoking problem in bars/restaurants. most bars here in my town arent allowed to operate unless they have a certain percentage of food sales....... so, you will have people come in to eat...... its not only people who just come in to drink........ so people who are trying to eat, and cooks who are making that food have to be subject to other peoples smoke? get real.
I've worked in restaurants. Anyways I answered your other questions... and what does the cook have to do with my solution? I doubt the cook would be cooking in the smoking room.
Yeah, I know.... they're trying for the second time. There is also another cigarette tax attached to the same thing. I signed a petition but we'll see what happens....
that would NOT work as far as a money making goes..... its detrimental for an establishment to be consistent with keeping things open for certain hours...... what if a person goes there at 6 oclock, a smoker, wants food, the smoking area is open, they are satisfied, want to go back the next day and the smoking area is closed......... they would be turned away disgruntled, and who knows if they will come back. employers wouldnt risk that, they would put the lives in the hands of his employees and make an employee work in a smoke filled smoking room just so he/she can make money. the best solution is to have a porch area outside for the smokers. its worked for the businesses here, especially for the one downtown with an awesome patio......... their business is booming, and they have tons of smokers out front on the patio smoking their lives away out in the open.
Well, I do agree about the patios.... I've sat in many patio areas in other states when I still smoked....
You always know how to say what I want to say. Thanks for that. Freedom includes the freedom to fuck up.. the government has no right to tell it's citizens what to do. And if you think that the government has that right then, essentially, you are willing to be their slave.
You're not from MN, are you? I know in MN they banned smoking,as of Oct 1 here. I also know that a large portion of MN has access to WI w/in a small driving time. All we have to do is drive over the bridge to WI, where there is smoking allowed, bars stay open an hour later, liquor stores stay open later and on Sundays, and you guy buy other than 3.2 flu in the gas station. In my opinion, we are GIVING our business to another state. We're not solving anything here.
