Nonsense. They're not incapable of course. And neither is the entire left mollycoddling islam. Not sure why it is posed as such when people on the left are correcting unnuanced muslim or islambashing. It doesn't mean they're condoning the bad aspects in islam at all... A difference that might matter a little here is that christianity is an intrinsic part of western culture. People in western society were often raised christian or know how it affected their culture: they're basically criticizing an aspect of their own culture. I hardly hear anyone objecting to criticizing dubious aspects of islam, the objection seems more often about it being done unnuanced, too generalized and without considering the majority of muslims are peaceful citizens like the average citizen here, and who just like a peaceful christian uses their religion to help them with that, not primarily use it to like marrying 12 year olds, behead infidels or cut of hands of rascals who stole an apple.
Statistically speaking, India is an anomaly, as all other ancient civilizations like the egyptian, babylonian, persian, assyrian have collapsed and disintegrated, while we are still intact and alive in this old world. I would say that this is because of India's generous contributions to world civilization and culture. “I am convinced that everything has come down to us from the banks of the Ganges, astronomy, astrology, metempsychosis, etc. It does not behoove us, who were only savages and barbarians when these Indians and Chinese peoples were civilized and learned, to dispute their antiquity.” ~ Voltaire "It is India that gave us the ingenuous method of expressing all numbers by the means of ten symbols, each symbol receiving a value of position, as well as an absolute value; a profound and important idea which appears so simple to us now that we ignore its true merit, but its very simplicity, the great ease which it has lent to all computations, puts our arithmetic in the first rank of useful inventions, and we shall appreciate the grandeur of this achievement when we remember that it escaped the genius of Archimedes and Apollonius, two of the greatest minds produced by antiquity." -- French mathematician Pierre Simon Laplace (1749–1827) “India was the motherland of our race and Sanskrit the mother of Europe's languages. India was the mother of our philosophy, of much of our mathematics, of the ideals embodied in Christianity... of self-government and democracy. In many ways, Mother India is the mother of us all.” ~ Will Durant Imho, we have survived to the present era, because we still have something more to contribute to the world as yet. I suppose we will retire after that.
Do you chronically verify the political orientation of people after taking notice of such criticism? And as i pointed out many of the countering in public debate by left leaning people is not coddling but nuancing. I notice that about the american right too in the media. But I take notice of politics in my country a little more directly and have to say there's plenty of reasonable criticism from 'the right'. I suspect its the same over there. A lot of media tends to focus on extremes and sensation. Some aspects of institutions and islamic leaders are indeed dubious and at odds with human rights. Not islam nor the institutions as a whole, or all their religious leaders (not unlike in christianity ) I'm not gonna do an internet search for you if that's what you're asking.
I like what you say but disagree. 1) Wether a country/culture/civilisation has still a lot to offer and contribute to humanity in general is irrelevant for its survival. Not saying India hasn't (on the contrary) but its not why it is still here. 2) Your indian culture/society/civilisation is not the same at all as the one that invented public sewers and Sanskrit. Just like my north western european civilisation has a different culture and society as my ancestors in either the middle ages or lets say the renaissance. Ok, it can be seen as the same civilisation, but even there we have to conclude its a certain continuation of it, it's not the same.
Calling a country a shit hole country is not racist. And I'm not going to waste time getting into it with you on the U.S., except to question how your anti-U.S. sentiment makes India sound any better.
The Arya in eastern Dhamic philosophy means the 'noble one' or one of noble character or conduct, characterised by higher states of consciousness. This is what the Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain philosophies teach in India. Krishna, Buddha, Mahavira, Anandamayi Ma can be seen as ideal Aryas. The western interpretation of recent times is a perverted one with a racial tone denying or overlooking the eastern emphasis on consciousness and character, which has had disastrous consequences in the last century through the second world war and holocaust. Quantum physics have also described the importance of consciousness in recent times. Quantum physicists like Werner Heisenburg and Erwin Schrodinger have acknowledged the role of eastern philosophy like Advaita vedanta in better understanding their own theoretical speculations which appeared weird to themselves ironically. After these conversations with Tagore some of the ideas that had seemed so crazy suddenly made much more sense. That was a great help for me. ~ Werner Heisenburg "He (Werner Heisenburg) began to see that the recognition of relativity, interconnectedness, and impermanence as fundamental aspects of physical reality, which had been so difficult for himself and his fellow physicists, was the very basis of the Indian spiritual traditions."~ Frijtof Capra ( Uncommon Wisdom: Conversations With Remarkable People) (1988) The plurality that we perceive is only an appearance; it is not real. Vedantic philosophy... has sought to clarify it by a number of analogies, one of the most attractive being the many-faceted crystal which, while showing hundreds of little pictures of what is in reality a single existent object, does not really multiply that object... ~ Erwin Schrodinger Vedanta teaches that consciousness is singular, all happenings are played out in one universal consciousness and there is no multiplicity of selves. ~ Erwin Schrodinger
Haha, you beat me to it! Honestly, if it weren't for Big Bang Theory, I'd never have heard of the dude. Almost the same case with Heisenburg, aka Walter White!
It depends on the details why one is calling it as such. It's sooner a certain form of discrimination (ethnic, cultural, national) rather than plain simple racist. But these other forms of discrimination are often called racism. Calling the US a shit country can also be based on discrimination. But certain aspects of typical american culture definitely seem shitty.. and not only to non-americans
The only real nonsense here are your FACTS. And what I've said has neither been pro or anti U.S., just making observations on your very biased and anti-U.S. attitude.
How would you know what I'm defending? I've intentionally said very little at all. Impeccable? That's what we call a crock! Anyway, I've had enough fun here. All I can see is extreme... Arrogance, check Impatience, check Bias, check Racism, check Anger, check Yeah, thanks but I think I will pass.
You still on the war path, eh? And I'm actually keeping it quite polite here, not sure what you're referring to. Still gotta be honest tho, know what I mean? Sensitive much?
Just like the infamous British serial killer Jack the Ripper and the Australian serial killer Brenton Tarrant who killed many innocent people in cold blood, India too had a notorious serial killer named Angulimala 2500 years back. He lived in the forest and pounced upon travellers, killing them. The kings at that time sent whole armies to capture him but were unsuccessful. He chanced upon the Buddha who was travelling in the forest and proceeded to kill him but found himself unable to do so. He eventually ended up becoming a disciple of the Buddha, and becoming a passive monk to the point that he did not retaliate when he was beaten up by the kin of his victims, while out begging for alms as a monk. Buddha's teachings on vipassana are now being taught free of cost in many prisons in India and all over the world, and which has been found to be successful in reducing criminal tendencies and behavior. It was a distinguished senior lady police officer named Kiran Bedi (who had an outstanding service record and pioneered many innovations in crime control, drug rehabilitation, and humane prison reforms, which gained worldwide acclaim and won her the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1994.) who first introduced meditation in prisons as a method to reduce criminal behavior. She was instrumental in introducing the reform model of study and practice of meditation sessions in Indian prisons, which proved to be highly successful and is now being replicated all over the world. Doing Time, Doing Vipassana - Wikipedia https://prison.dhamma.org/prisonsworldwide.htm Britain's most dangerous prisoners to get meditation lessons It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the Buddha met Jack the Ripper in a dark alley or Brenton Tarrant in the mosque and whether he would have reformed them as well. Buddha had also taught that the Buddha nature is there in all sentient beings and each one is a potential Buddha himself.Evil or negative criminal behavior is an unnatural state, brought about by undisciplined ways of thinking and emoting.
Evil is an imaginary concept for bad things and actions and distorted people. Fear (or hate/dislike) seems a more adequate opposite for love.
I agree with you. Although I recognize that rape cases occur in all countries on all continents, the worst, most horrible and brutal incidents reported by the world press occur in India. Unfortunately. It is sad to even talk about these episodes because they make us lose faith in humanity.
"Large public protests because a woman got ganged raped on a bus"(!!!). Why is that?.??? I'm sorry, but in this case of gang rape and HORRIFIC MURDER (12/16/2012), a young woman was brutally beaten, raped several times and in every way possible, and even had pieces of her intestines ripped out by the rapists. She remained alive for a few days and suffered a lot. This was the worst case of violence against a human being that I have ever seen in my entire life. I am over 70 years old.
And these are all reported by Indian media outlets as well. As there are relatively many more english speaking indian median outlets compared to other countries, many such events are documented and extensively reported by Indian media outlets. There are no curbs on free speech and media in Indian democracy unlike other theocratic and dictatorial countries. And since India has the largest population on earth of 1.45 billion , we are bound to have disproportionately large crime statistics comparatively speaking. Though India has the second largest army on earth, it has not fostered wars and invasions in faraway nations as part of its foreign policy. This itself ensures that a major portion of possible human rights violations around the world have not been committed by India. You can check out the war crimes committed by other war-mongering countries in the world in terms of comparison . India is the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping forces which have strenthened law and order in many foreign countries . Indian female UN officers like Inspector Shakti Devi and Major Radhika Sen have won UN awards for their distinguished services in Afghanistan and Congo. ] Dr. Kiran Bedi is an Indian female police officer who became the first woman to serve as the United Nations Police Adviser and had been honored with the UN medal for outstanding service.
