Indian researchers in IIT Guwahati has created a cost-effective method to grow a semiconductor gallium oxide, which the potential to enhance
the efficiency of power electronics used in high-power applications such as electric vehicles, high-voltage transmission, traction, industry automation among others.

IIT-Guwahati-Led Research Develops Cost-Effective Semiconductors

A cost-effective method to grow a special semiconductor with the potential to significantly enhance the efficiency of power electronics used in high-power applications even at very high temperatures has been developed in a collaborative effort led by researchers of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, a statement said on Monday.

A team of IIT-Guwahati came together with researchers of IIT-Mandi and Institute of Sensor and Actuator Systems, Technical University Wien, to develop this special semiconductor which can be used in high-power applications like electric vehicles, high-voltage transmission, traction and industry automation.
