there are more exacting versions than the king james, I can point out, off the top of my head in fact a point where it varies from the original version, the original text, in the story of the loaves and the fishes (jesus, sermon on the mount, ring a bell?) the kjv speaks of baskets

in the original greek the word is actually closers to hampers, the remnant of crumbs is actually a much larger amount than the kjv would lead you to believe

also in the kjv the stone was "rolled away" from jesus' tomb, in the "original" text it was rolled up and away

Well.. I'm not a Christian and even though the Bible definately has some good parts, I can find a lot of wisdom in other literature as well

For believing who goes to heaven and who doesn't, you would first have to believe in a heaven. After that is established, there would be the problem of defining heaven and defining the 'pearly gate policy'. Who's in, who's out. Can only a few chosen folk go in or is every childrapist that has 'seen the light' and was 'born again' ok? Or are there certain special treatments for people who did bad things previous to their convertion?

The only thing I know for sure about stuff like this is.. we don't know anything. That's why it's called 'having faith' and 'believing'. You believe certain things to be true. But you will never know for 100% sure.. and that's a fact

When talking to a friend of mine yesterday I heard the argument that atheists are always 'so negative'. The same is said about buddhist who only seem to focus on the 'suffering'. I do see that, that a lot of people seek refugee in religion and almost want to believe that there is a god that will take care of you. He might give you some tests, but there are always the 'footsteps in the sand'.. and if you just keep on believing it, you have a pretty good chance of going to heaven no matter how fucked up and hard your life is now. That sounds really comforting, I must agree. Too bad I don't buy it

 

child rapists can go to heaven if they accept god as their saviour, it isn't action based, though I doubt that there are many there because you have to admit to yourself what you did and repent, repentance can be a nasty process

and the point of faith is that you cannot "know" it you have to make that leap,


if you could "know" that god were real everyone would go to heaven, no faith or anything would be involved and it'd be a let everyone in club.....

 

So god made a game out of it? He doesn't want all of us in heaven so he keeps it all a big mystery? If he truly is so powerfull, he could do way more to convince people and help them staying out of Satans hands.. you might answer that he gave us the Bible and his Son.. but you have to admit that the Bible isn't exactly the best written, most coherent book ever.. and that Jesus would have been way better understood if he would just have written the bloody thing himself.
