And yet I hear so many people do it, God bless you is almost as freely used as the four letter word is. Nobody says God bless Canada, thank god for that, hahahahahaha
That's a bit of flawed logic there. You are talking about the idea of God(s). Yes, those ideas do exist, even in the mind of atheists mainly because at some point in time, someone brought it forward, and that idea is very much open for discussion and interpretation. That fact by itself does not prove anything about God. So by your logic, God only exists because we talk about and think about it? And thus God does not exist for animals and plants because they can't reason like humans can? If there were no humans, there would be no God?
I prove God, starting with the simplest, realest, truest and most obvious: God is a word. A very powerful word. God is a word that will never be obsolete. The most spoken word in all space and time is God. There is never a moment in time where people are not talking about God, praying to God, fighting about God, negating and denying God (as atheists do), cursing God, etc.. Forever and always and ever more, God. And then some. It simply is, and will always be. I don't know why atheists don't realize this. Or why they fail to understand that Christ was Word in the flesh. God and Word are synonymous terms. Christ had the power of the Word. I understand it just fine. Whatever. prefix, suffix, crucifix. Word. God: an endless conversation that atheist cannot escape. God is what draws them to it. Repeatedly. Yeah, there's some truth to that whole "God Bless" thing. I don't know if it's favoritism but I have never read or heard "God Bless the Netherlands" before today.
God exists in a multitude of ways, starting with the obvious: Word. God personified is Christ (Word in the flesh). But God is so vast and complex, a "subject" of such immensity that it becomes an endless conversation. If God didn't exist for atheists, there's no reason for them to discuss God.
When atheists discuss God they aren't discussing your Christian God, they're talking about the concept of God in an abstract way. God is a pervasive theme in society. It is hard to avoid the subject entirely. You don't have to believe in something to know that it exists for others and to understand it as a topic of discussion. Honestly I find it annoying that Christians constantly talk to me about their God as if he is infallible fact. I would love if everyone stopped talking about God.
No, you worded that wrong. It should be: if the idea of God didn't exist, there would be no reason for them to discuss God. There are people out there who do not believe in evolution, there are people who do not believe that the holocaust happened, there are people who do not believe in aliens, there are people who do not believe that the moonlanding happened etc. Yet all these topics are being discussed by either side. If there is dualism, there is reason for discussion, no matter what side you are on or what you believe. Being an atheist it totally irrelevant in this. As long as there are religious people, there is reason for atheists to discuss.
Exactly. It has been the topic of discussion for many centuries. The gods of ancient Greece for example were very different gods than the contemporary Christian God. Yet, similar discussions already took place back then.
If you put a hundred bucks on a table and ask if it's there people who are not blind will say yes. Take it away and ask them again, the conversation still happen but the money is not there but you asked making it a conversation. Just like the conversation of god, we, all of us religious or not, and you cannot see him but you say he is there, why should those who know they can't see him not say their bit? Inescapable? Why? Because he can't be seen but some say he is there and when they tell those who can't see it they will say their bit too. Seriously, there is a reason he is inescapable if that's what we wanna call the whole thing. Those who see him bring it up as if they do and others don't know for sure so conversation happens. Never in my life have I seen a non religious person break from a casual conversation and blurt out god isn't there. But we see some overly religious people break into prit near preaching from nothing at all. Who started this thread? Who says others are wrong, who is conversating with you anyway? Isn't this why you started it? To bring up God? God does not bring people to conversation, people bring god into conversation and non religious people would usually rather Not get into it, believe it or not.
You keep saying it's not a question of rights but what you're saying is that we shouldn't talk about it because we don't believe. Why do we talk about it??? BECAUSE WE CAN! That is clearly a right that we have. I live in America where there is freedom of speech which says I can talk about anything I want to talk about. If I want to talk about religion I certainly will any time I want to. I don't understand why you keep saying its not a question of rights when that is clearly what this is about. Your original question is "why do we waste our time talking about it?" Because its not fair for only one side (being the religious side) to talk to us about their god and expect us to sit there and not say anything. You could change your question to "why do Christians waste their time talking about god?" It's just as simple...because you can. This is CLEARLY a question of rights in my opinion.
There are many, many Gods but only one God Most High. And that is the one they insist "does not exist". I don't know how Christians constantly talk to you but on the internet, you can choose who you'll engage and who you won't. People are never going to stop talking about God and even if they did (which will never happen), God will still be. If atheists can achieve it though, haha
You wish I worded it wrong and you wish *I* were wrong. God is far more, else and other than an idea or concept but, this is part of the endless conversation. It isn't irrelevant at all .. there are many people who do not believe in space aliens so they read nothing, study nothing, discuss nothing. They live their lives and never pay attention to something they do not think or believe exists. A TRUE atheist would never, ever discuss religion or God. Period.
If atheists truly think and believe "there is no God" or "God does not exist", then why ever discuss it? Why waste their time, attention, energy on something they think doesn't exist? I've said that multiple times in this thread. People can dance around it, duck and dodge all the want. It's straight and direct to the point.
Personally sometimes I just like to chat. But most of the time I do not waste my energy discussing it. I take it you are quite religious, ginalee?
Who said anything about should or shouldn't? Not I. It makes no sense for a person who thinks and believes that "God is not real" and "does not exist" to spend their mind, time, energy talking about it. It is a waste of their assets.
In my opinion it is a waste of time, energy and certainly their mind for people who believe in god to sit around and talk about it also but there are entire church services dedicated to doing so. We talk about it for the same reason you do. Figure it out.
Well...maybe we'll have to just agree to disagree. I've been studying this topic for most of my adult life, I find it fascinating but this post is complete and utter bullshit. Don't dismiss others and put your beliefs on display as the ultimate truth because it invites people to cut them down and I'm more than happy to do it. The thing is that people like me tend to look at what people like you think and wonder what might be true. People like you seem to toss out any question of what is true and just blindly follow what has come before them. Your book (and all others) are just a bunch of words....sorry if you take offense to the term "magical book" but it's nothing more than that...just a magical book. Pick your book. If god is real...why should you be judged for the book you picked? Why doesn't your god have the power to prove him/its/herself to clarify what book should be followed? This is why I don't post in religious threads. Religious people need to get their shit together before they can have a logical discussion about mythology. I love all people but I will not just stand by and let certain people spout off about bullshit claims related to ancient people that they basically know nothing about without at least pointing out the bullshit factor.
If quite means orthodox then no. Do I think atheists waste their minds, attention, time and energy? Yes. Let's get right to the Heart of the matter. Who's got wicked, wicked hatred against religion and God? Not me (obviously).
No I didn't mean that. But never mind. I know what you think of atheists. I think. I think you think they all think the same way. I don't have hatred for religion or God ... Any more. I grew up
