With Global oil production at peak now, meaning production of oil will only decline from here on out, our economy is fatally flawed! This experiment of globalisation relies on one thing. Cheap Oil! 95% of the worlds tranportation runs on oil and if there is less oil available next year than this as production has clealry peaked, not only will prices of everything go up (through market forces), we will be forced to transport less goods. Globalisation in its very essence, to succeed, needs more resources and goods tranported every year for economic growth to continue! Looks like this experiment is over just as its begining.
cooloner makes an excellent and often ignored point. Globalization in itself is an innocuous word. It's neither good nor bad. All it means is the unification of SOMETHING. What the "anti-globalization" movement is against is the globalization of corporate power and military might, NOT the globalization of peace, harmony and the free movement of people upon their own planet. We are PRO-GLOBALIZATION of human happiness.

What the "anti-globalization" movement is against is the globalization of corporate power and military might, hence the reason why activists refer to themselves as being against *corporate* globalization. Let's not forget the adjective. We are FOR the globalization of peace, harmony and the free movement of people upon their own planet without harrassment and threats of death, and death. We are PRO-GLOBALIZATION of human happiness.
Agreed, globalisation of some things may not be bad. Globalisation of knowledge and peace would not be bad at all. However, the globalisation of the supply chain of material goods is bad. In particular food supply. if the world comes to rely on food supplied from distance sources on large scale industrial farms, what will happen when oil suddenly becomes expensive and the fragile global food supply breaks down! its not about capitalism or communism. Its about long term sustainability of the human race and it is not sustainble to source food the way we do today. Its is also not sustainable to grow food the way we do today, requiring 10 calories of fossil fuel inputs for evey calorie of food we eat! fossil fuels are finite. The Human need for food is not. Therefor we should be making every move to try to make food supply indepent from fossil fuel use. Globalisation of foods supply is exactly the wrong way to go and very very dangerous!!!!!!!
very true. the worst aspect of globalisation is centralisation. it's ruining regional economies and in long term creativity. the best aspect is what we doing right now
