Firewire is high power, high speed. It is frequently used for cameras, yes. It has the ability to "daisy chain" large numbers of computers or hard drives, because of the fundamental differences between a firewire and USB controller, which means if you want more than 1 USB device, you need a USB hub.

It's generally seen by your computer as a network device, and can be used somewhere in (I THINK) the range of 255 devices in a single daisy chain.

Very useful.

I THINK it was meant as a follow up to SCSI, with little thought paid to it's position relative to USB, in fact I know originally it was meant to be an internal thing.

I dont know if these were posted here , I just skimmed the text http://distrowatch.com/ http://www.ubuntu.com/ I would run Linux as a live cd first to make sure everthing works . desert rat
