No, deathstars are some modern variant of it. I don't like that kind of stuff neither. Pantera is quite ok.

Ok, i'm gonna try to explain, but i'm not good at it in English.

The main differences (copied from Wikipedia ):

Screeching vocals (death metal has grunts)

• Normally tuned guitars (stark contrast to Death Metal which typically uses down-tuned guitars)

• Lyrics that take the form of Satanic, Pagan, or occult themes which blaspheme Christianity. Lyrics that celebrate the cold, darkness, forests, and other natural surroundings of northern European countries, reflecting modern black metal's origins in Scandinavia(death metal is more focused on horror and gore themes)
• Fast, repetitive, aggressive drums, often with blast beats. At other times, the drums can take a slower role usually accompanied by a very dry and empty tone—especially for the effect of the atmosphere of the music
• Occasional electronic keyboard use. The harpsichord, violin, organ, and choir settings are most common, which gives the music an orchestral feel or a cathedral-like setting.
• Less focus on dynamic rhythm than death metal. (death metal is pretty much always focused more on technique and rythm than (like with black metal) atmosphere.
