This one is going to take you all back. It's not a thread for an electronic or even computer game, but for two board games. You all remember board games don't you? We all used to play them at one time. Anyways, some years back, when I and my cousin were both 13, I saw her play a truly unique game with her brother. It was played on a checkers board. But the aim of the game was to lose, as it were, not to win. In other words, if there was a opposing piece next to you, you had to jump it. And that was how you won, by losing, essentially. In her still-immature way, she gave the game a name. But I have since forgotten the name. Does anyone know what I am talking about? What do you call that game? I don't want to play it now per se. But I would like to know its name just the same. Also, sometimes I see people play a simplified form of chess. The aim of chess, of course, is to checkmate the king. But I have seen a simplified form of this game too, where the only aim is to capture the king, like in chess. I don't know if this one has a name either. But if it does, I would like to know. And thank you all in advanced, for (kindly) replies . :daisy:
I don't know.... I played board games as a child....and liked the fun, silly ones.....but never heard of the one you are talking about....I cannot say I play any games now, though.....I have never played a computer game........in my life....lol...but some board games were fun..... How about a song? not a very happy one, though.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RmgiSL1djg
I am confused for 2 reasons. First, from what you describe you win by jumping your opponent's pieces which would be winning by winning, not by losing. Could you elaborate on what it means to win by losing? Secondly a game played on a checkers board where you have to make a jump if it is open to you... that sounds like regular checkers to me. At least that is how I always played it. Any way you might want to try asking on the boardgamegeek If a game exists someone on there has probably played it, and people are always asking for help identifying old games. As a side note I love board games. I have a collection of about 150 games, all recreating historical battles or entire wars.
I've seen that kind of reverse checkers played before. Don't know that there is an actual name for it. The object of the game is to have all your checkers removed from the board first, hence, the rule that if you can jump a piece, you must do so.
Sorry, Emanresu, about the late reply (I have been very busy lately). But I assume canuck9999 answered your question.
Yup. Did you check out boardgamegeek? I spend a lot of time over there. The forums are a little hard to navigate, but the site is definitely worthy of its title.
