Good one. How long did it take you to come up with that?

Thank God I'm not God. (altho we all are a part of "God" soo... nevermind actually)

Anyways, I had a serious point though. Woulda been nice if you could have kept this thread talking about serious issues. :)

That's funny....my origonal theory about the OP was something close to that. You know, how some people adapt to certain personas because they like the drma that comes with the territory. Kinda like how some women become feminists just so they find new ways that they're being "persecuted" by.

You're not very good at the whole "insult people on the internet" thing are you, or is just intelligent communication that eludes you or maybe any type of communication with someone with opposing views.

Tony Blair and George Bush are many things. Men of God isn't one of them despite both claiming to be christians.

So it should be noted that :

    • Christians never dropped a nuke on civilians (twice)
    • Christians never used depleted uranium
    • Christians never built gas chambers to kill jews, gays, political dissdents, etc
    • Chritians never caused cival wars in Africa just to sell them weapons

But they sure as hell followed orders and gladly did those things for Godless men. Leaving me to ask what would make someone ignore the teachings of their faith and commit such atrocities?

    Consider this,
No religion anywhere has ever destroyed the enviroment, caused the extinction of species, funded spy organisations with drug money or ever taken anything to the extreme that a nation state has and continues to do so.

Patriotism and Nationalism and market based economies have done more harm than anything else in this world. Only these things put men in uniforms, call them heros then give them such things as fighter jets and tanks... along with a paycheck and a pension plan.

That's why I chose not to respond earlier. It was clear that anything I said was going to be met with 'that's ignorant' and then a dig at my intelligence and who the hell wants to explain anything to that.

Hey if she wants to wear that thing then fine go ahead girl enjoy. My thing is that it degrades women and femininity. It teaches you that you need to hide your self to be pias and humble or modest. That you should seek out modesty in your appearance because your feminine beauty prevents you from being a good person. Beauty and femininity are gifts women have they give power and by putting this thing on you give it away.

I don't really think Islamic women view it that way. I read an account yesterday written by an Islamic women of what it was like to wear a burqa and she made the point that it didn't keep her from seeing the world. She was not shut off from the world, she was free to observe the world without prying eyes. She said she felt more free.

Neither perspective is really wrong. I think it is a natural gut reaction of westerners to feel sorry for Islamic women but I don't think the majority of Islamic women really feel oppressed. At least because of the clothing they wear - I am sure there are other reasons Islamic women feel oppressed but I also think that is cultural and contained in certain countries. Islamic women live all over the world and are free to pursue higher education and careers in much of the world.

Some threads have been closed in other parts of the forum because things were getting too mean and personal, and I don't want to see that happen to anymore threads.

I agree with this. That's why while I support the woman's choice to wear it, it makes me sad, women hiding themselves. I think it's origins are in men finding women "unlcean", and that's not right.
I love being a woman, I love myself, and I think the best way to express that and respect it is by being as free and open as possible, with no restraints and no hurting anyone.

That's what I've observed that changed my initial outright dislike of burkas and hijabs.... every woman I have met who has made this choice has been a strong, intelligent, opinionated, educated, kind individual.
So I can see their own personal reasons for wearing them, which is cool, but I don't support the establishment.

I totally agree with you about Bush, Blair (Cheney! Etc..) not being true men of God.

And I'm not arguing with you about christian extremists doing fucked up shit. Or fake christians... however you wanna view it.

    It comes from all sides.
