There is a huge difference between spewing the venom you are and conveying verifiable facts about these institutions as I and other have attempted to do here. I'm going to be Ireland at the end of the summer to visit my grandparents. I'm looking forward to discussing God with them. They've always been very faithful and fearing.

 

Ireland was never really about faith in god. It was about aggressive subjugation, which is an unfortunate (best re-directed, altered, or otherwise nullified) aspect of human nature.

What happened with royalty and all was a little bit about god..... but not really.

It was mostly good ol' fashioned in-group/out-group, us/them fun. And that it remains, the religion just gives it a little tiny bit of legitimacy. And today, the catholics in ireland (in the "cultural" sense, not the actual church, who are monsters, as they are everywhere) have good fucking reason to be pissed, and really, some protestants do too, there should be no reason people can't move freely regardless of religion. It's been hundreds of years, everybody is generations past who's fault anything really is, it needs to be solved - and england really needs to gtfo.

I'm sorry, but what the hell? I can't speak for Britain, but here in America, it's sort of the complete opposite of that. In this country, anyone in the clergy can get away with saying some absolutely horrendous shit that would get a layperson ostracized.

But when religious fanatics murder people for their God, then it's completely fine, right? Also, if you want to say that American foreign policy is all around evil and has never done any good, then talk to an Iraqi Kurd, because they were the victims of a genocide at the hands of Saddam's government.

We haven't gone to war with China because we don't have any reason to go to war with China. The reason we deal with them is because the Chinese and American economies are very much enmeshed together. It's a relationship of convenience and necessity.

I'm not really up to date on the reasons behind the Ireland situation, but I severely doubt that it's because Ireland is a Christian nation.

Not that I care, because I'm not going to a place that doesn't exist after I die and my existence is snuffed out forever. And I might be wrong, but don't Muslims not believe in hell? I was under the impression that hell was a New Testament thing that only Christians believed in. This has always bugged me. If I do good charity and deeds, and I do, am I still going to hell because I don't believe in God? How fucked up is it that God would send a good person to hell just because they believe all the evidence that shows that there is no God? If that's the case, then God sounds like an asshole. Thankfully, he doesn't exist, so it doesn't matter.

I'm sure you'll fit right in with 'very faithful and fearing' Irish Catholics. They have a history of defending terrorists who murder innocent people because they're being oppressed too.

You know, you probably won't. My experience with 'very faithful and fearing' Irish Catholics is that they aren't particularly tolerant of people who aren't Catholic.
