You should never shoot off guns into the air, New Years Eve, or any other time. But as my mother would often tell me "if you must", remember this. I never shot off guns News Years Eve myself. But bullets shot up the in air will come down to earth with the same force they left. And you don't know who they'll hit. So shoot it at an angle, away from people, into the soft ground. Not the frozen ground, not the pavement. Not even water they say. And even then it is very dangerous, because it might hit something hard there, like a stone for example. Plus it's illegal. But I'm just saying about doing safely...
I celebrated by kissing my wife, which I haven't done for several years, since we are both sound asleep.. Plus I live in a state where fireworks are legal. I would have just lite a big firecracker.
Here in Mexico they do like to fire guns at New Years, so every year there are public service announcements about NOT doing that... yet it still happens. They also LOVE fireworks here, but I didn't see a lot of that this year, previous years were much noisier.
