I dunno. I took as much responsibilty as I possibly could and still got cancer. So I was kind of between a rock and a hard place, and had to take certian drugs...I guess I could have avoided China, but other than that, I am very responsible in regards to my body: eat lots of organic salad mixes, fruits and veggies and 5-12+ miles 3-5 times a week...But, oh well.

Any way, I am pretty sure the sickness developed after living in China and breathing in all that air for two years. Other than that, I am not really sure what I could have done to avoid that sickness.

Sorry to hear that Carl. I'm also sorry to hear you went to china. I have never known a sino-vacationer to return healthy. I'll stick to haulover and southbeach. Your diet and exercise program seem effective enough.

I don't really agree with a healthcare system based on insurance in general - i am more for a single payer system - but in terms of our current insurance system, insurance really comes in handy with any major illness like cancer or any kind of freak accident.

I rarely get sick but i have bronchitis currently and just went to the doctor for the first time in years. I figured out that i would really better be off paying out of pocket when it comes to occasional doctors visits. I would have paid maybe $100 for the visit, plus $60 on meds that I had to pay out of pocket anyways because my insurance doesn't cover them. I pay about $150 a month for my current insurance. If you're only factoring in your average, every day illness then preventative care and simply paying out of pocket is more cost effective.

however, a major illness without insurance will either leave you hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt or dead. That is the main reason i carry insurance. It saved my butt when I was pregnant and it will probably save me again sometime in the future, knock on wood
