saying american still belongs to the native people's is like saying that unless brits can trace their lineage back to the original inhabitants of the uk if they have roman blood or something, they should go "home." or if your people can't trace their lineage back to whichever tribes first roamed that particular patch of land you're on, you need to get out, too, or pay them rent. it's nonsense. no one holds onto any place forever, their gene pool would stagnate and they'd die out anyway. me? i'm glad you european people showed up. i'm a damned fine blend of genetics and glad for it. so don't get me started on the "stolen lands" thing. no one "owns" a place forever. they just stake a claim for as long as they can hold onto it. that's nature.

there is an old axium i think that describes this perfectly:
no matter where you go, there you are...

everyplace i have ever been has its up side and its down side...i loved london, its a very fun city...nice place to visit...but i couldnt live there...sensory overload...too many people...too much crime...ive been to paris...dirty dirty city...lots of snobbery...but ill be damned if they didnt make a wine i didnt like...new york city...lots of cool mafia dudes i liked the company of...i couldnt live there either...lots of scary people...but i loved every second of the splender...and here i am, i live in the woods...i like the quiet...the peace...the nature...but i fucking HATE this town and i hate harsh winter...its striking a balance...and it can be hard at times...but you pull it off and deal with it...

Like everyone else said already, this couldnt be further from teh truth. Obviously if your perceptions dont extend past the apparent, in your face, pop culture you might see things this way.

This thinking is just too dichotomous for me, sorry. And I'm not going to sound nationalistic and tell you that the united states is the epicenter of world culture. But there is a LOT of culture here, and its very diverse. I have met the most cultured people unexpectedly, as Ive found the people who are more subtle about it are way more interesting and lacking large egos.

It sounds like you should travel around some more, maybe associate with people outside of your normal circles. Remove yourself from the pop culture. Start meeting people at bookshops, record shops, shows, coffee houses. Where are you from anyway? And how many places have you lived in the US?

I've thought about leaving, but its not because I loathe the culture. I wanted to leave because of our ever increasingly fascist government, and I want to breed cannabis.

And for the original question, there are a lot of things I would miss. My home city for starters, washington DC. I would miss the shenandoah valley and tons of places in virginia, little spots in the world that I couldnt describe in words. The outer banks. Cruising I95. Florida. Baltimore. Snowboarding out west. The rockies. The car scene. Hiphop. The indie music scene. The excessiveness. The diversity. Tattoos, stoners, surfers, foreign cultures embedded all around me. Shit man I could keep going. I think you should just really try to change your perception to something that appreciates what is here a little more. If not you might get to europe and be like what the fuck is this shit??....

Yeah couldnt have it said better homey

not for a second do i believe he shouldn't travel extensively and maybe find some place that just FEELS right. but don't badmouth an entire country based on clearly limited perception and experience.

thats the thing to do of the new millenium, trash the US if you live in any European country, or if you live in the US act like its pure hell while others are getting gangraped and killed in Darfur, starving to death in sub Saharan africa, being arrested for chewing gum in Singapore or being put in jail for life for drugs, having to speak with an Australian accent in Australia (wherever that is), or being irradiated in Kiev

all obvious things, I don't need to be spoken to like I am a dim wit. Of course I have been to book shops, coffee shops, ect.

Than again, maybe you missed all of my posts afterwards, where I did extol certian positive virtues of the culture, because I have done the digging, but I have also dug up a lot of crap. I simply feel, at the end of the day, that European culture is superior.

You agree with someone who says I am lazy, but it seems maybe you were to lazy to see my other posts where I explain why I am not, because of the effort I have put into finding that culture. Okay, once and for all, understand I am not lumping 100% of it into one category of crap, understood, nor did I intend to. There are some bright spots, but, lots of crap. Living on a college campus, maybe I just see way to many lost souls trying to fit in, adhering to certian cliches. I dunno.

I don't think anyone is saying this country is pure hell, thats kinda going a little over board.

Than again, our country is going down south in other ways, as someone else said, subtly turning fascist as rights diminish.

But the way of life we currently enjoy, at least now, is pretty darn good. Quality of life, second only to Japan (Japanese women enjoy some of the longest lives in the world FYI), Australia, Canada, lots Western Europe, is pretty darn good.

People actually say living here (QoL) is hell? I don't think so. Maybe they mean in other ways?

Shes not judging you, shes judging your behavior I suppose. but behavior is a product of 3 things: genes, experience, and perception of the situation.. So shes basically right on with those. Dont take it personally we're not trying to rag on you (at least im not), but come on man you have to see how comments like that can spark judgments from people.

well, the whole "european culture is superior." for fuck's sake, we're a blend of world cultures. that's as silly as saying "ancient japanese culture is clearly superior to ancient chines culture." while one may have a preference, and like another or identify better with another, saying that because you like it better it's superior is silly.
