Haha that actually made me laugh.

Funny though, how people seem to think America is the number one country of opportunities and possibilities. I guess you people have not been out much.

I am not feeling bad, just laughing at your ignorance. It is both sad and amusing in a naive kind of way.

I like how Canada is too with diversity... this continent we live on and have to take care of has been claimed by overseas settlers since the beginning of history, which is broken down onto the national level.

As is global warming-- if it's governed solely on national or federal government levels, you might as well go buy an excursion for a commuter car, while you're at it, because that really won't go that far--only on paper. I suppose you'd get more out of focusing on foreign relations and state/local level to enforce (but the enforcing shouldn't be focused on, achieving a state of equilibrium should... instead of coming up with witty terms like patriot act or boy genius and ignoring our obligatory system of checks and balances) in relation to that, which is going to lead to everyone in the United States paying carbon taxes before anyone else on the planet... that seems to be the direction we're going. I don't really know what would happen if Ron was there, but I know he'd find a way around that, because that's what he does.

I surely would not miss American culture at all

Between the overly violent Hollywood flicks, emo fad and Brittany/Christina/Lindsay recent fuck ups, to start a large list of garbage ...yah..great culture.

I think my fellow Americans, some of them, occasionally get a big head, thinking they are the culture capital of the world.

    If so, by force only.

Quantity? Maybe. Quality, surely not. I'll take European culture any day, a culture with much more history and quality. Americas influence is largely by force. And by large selfish corporations that help force the culture on others. The people themselves..from what I have seen, don't care as much.

you don't think other countries indulge in tabloidism and crap films? don't be silly. you may choose to ignore it there, maybe because of a language barrier, but american culture is not pure tabloidism and violent hollywood garbage. that's just an INCREDIBLY closed minded and childishly bitter comment.

Heh, I'm surprised that speaking the truth is childish. oh well.

Maybe they partake in shitty films, ect. I guess it is good for a laugh, in a way. but thats not all they partake in. European culture is more varied. I mean, that is obvious with a much longer history. Maybe America will find itself, with more history behind it, but as of now, no.

If I was close minded, I would only partake in violent films, tabloids, emo ect. (American staples). But I believe looking at other cultures is actually the opposite of close minded, seeing beyond just what is presented to me here.

I just call em like I see em, and for the most part, popular culture in the US is indeed crap. Some of the underground stuff is good, for sure. But the fact that a lot of the good stuff is underground tells you something. people tend to gravitate towards crap to much and do know quality.

Close minded? That suprised me. I figured maybe you'd go with self loathing American or something, haha.

    I agree with Bird.

you lump the entirety of all the cultures across the usa into one ugly mass of mouth breathing garbage. what about all the smaller communities all over the usa? the small towns, the cities, the communities within those cities, the vibe of a certain town, the things people get up to to entertain themselves, to prolong their cultural heritage. europe doesn't have a exclusive grip on culture. thats just like thos assholes from new york who always thought that the only thing that really signifies culture is theater and crap musicals. it's not a lack of culture, it's just a different culture. and by completely denying that there is a mosaic of incredible cultural offerings all across the usa t(that has nothing to do with tv or hollywood) is indeed childishly bitter and narrow minded.

As much as I'm a fan of the action genre...

If you think that's all there is to American cinema, then you're scope of education on the subject is immature.

Moreover, most of popular culture everywhere is banal. That's not an American thing. And if you can't appreciate quality based on some a preconceived idea of whether it's underground, then you're simply a trend hopper. You kids are a dime a dozen.

    okay:

    I said

"Some of the underground stuff is good, for sure"

    That means movies, music, ect.

A lot of more mainstream flicks do tend to be simple in the plot and predictible, but there are some gems. But again, I repeat "Some of the underground stuff is good, for sure" does not really seem like I am lumping everything together eh?

There is some gems here, but a lot of it is kind of crap. But I did not say all of it.

I like the vibe of my city, portland maine. a little artsy in a fake sort of way...But the buildings themselves are nice. But I won't get into that

Most films aren't Hollywood anyway. Those are simply the most marketed and highest budgeted films. Many times more films are made in New York. Of course things that are formulaic are going to be pushed more heavily on consumers.

Don't criticize a whole culture because you're too lazy to look deeper.

it's not that we don't agree that there are wonders and new things to experience and enjoy everywhere, but i get sick and fucking tired of usa bashing. there's awful, there's average, and there's great. just like everywhere else. we're not all a bunch of walmart trollers.

a trend hopper isn't underground than, by definition. but who cares. Lets not get into assumptions. I don't pay attention to weather something is underground or not. But sometimes I do notice that what I like does not tend to get as much media. It is easy to notice that what does get media is kinda crap. simple as that and no trend hopper snooty attitude needed to notice that.

Maybe we can redirect this more towards the original topic of what you would miss if you had to leave the usa.
