I had a domestic chinchilla. My mom sold her though. She was noisy at night; running on her treadmill-wheel.

I think insects make interesting pets. Maybe a domestic honey bee. :D

Nothing says "get outta my way!" quite like an elephant. :)

You should come to India, then.

It is a common sight to see elephants in temple festivals in certain parts of India, especially in the south.

They are also abundant in Indian forests and a visual feast for photographers.

Matey your pictured Tiger is a beautiful pussy cat, but is not to be trusted and one should NEVER turn your back on one.

As to my Tiger cub, matey I'm now over seventy years old, the story I told occurred when I was just four years old. Elephants can live that long, but not Tigers - he is long dead.

small cats are only mostly harmless because they are small. consider how they play. even without meaning to cause harm, scale that up to your own mass, with three times the strength and three times the speed. yes, not ever to be assumed about. though there intentions can be entirely to be your friend. its that they can injure or even kill you, without ever in any least way intending to. its just how they play and the physical results of it. talk about knocking things off of shelves.

and yet, if one were smart enough, and so inclined, to be able to avoid causing harm, which would take more then many humans have and are.

yes i would love to have a companion of another species. i would not use the terms pet, or domesticated.
and for practical reasons, one small enough to be unlikely to cause serious harm to flesh or furnishings,

i like the idea of aluris fulgins, and divers small species of vulpies.
i would love to have 40 acres of bamboo forest in the sierra or cascade foothills,
to raise aluris fulgins for species survival, with free natural run and natural risk from preditors to keep them from becoming an invasive disaster.

i've head of them being kept as pets by people living where they are native to in parts of east asia.
(aluris fulgins being the red panda, a small mustalid with a huge amount of rather long fur, totally unrelated to the giant panda, save by the name which refers to the eating of bamboo)

Good if they could breed miniatures of any animal, imagine having your own little rhino , maybe it could be a way of saving them from extinction.
