people coming toward each other, floating or flying in mid air, always approach each other head to head, wherever either of them is coming from.
there's this thing called the curvature of a very big oblate spheroid. well even if it were a 'flat' plane that streatched infinitely in the x and y directions, this would still be.
and flying or floating, besides looking ahead, you'd most likely be looking down (the same down) too, as that is where there is more to see.

(otherwise this is mostly a cartoon problem that would only exist in them)

a universe that was forest and mountains that went on forever in the two dimensions
and somehow had a breathable atmosphere too,
would be a wonderful great convenience to be able to build railways that went on forever too.

that worlds are discrete and widely seperated spherical surfaces is something of a frustrating disappointment in the dificulty it creates, making it nearly impossible to maintain cultural diversity once communication and transportation technologies develop. where as, with an infinitely planar universe, with thus infinite space, it would just be a matter of travelling far enough, and you could, to then meet and find them.

our universe is the way it is, but others that might exist need not be.
