I think you're the one who doesn't get it. America is not the most racist country on earth -- not by far. The fact that a black man is president means very little. He's no better than any other politician -- if he'd been born white, it wouldn't matter. I appreciate that if you believe he was voted in fairly it might be kind of interesting, though to be honest I think the vast majority of Americans are not racist, but are fucking terrified to look racist, almost to the point of racism against white people. But that's a moot point, because I don't believe Obama or any other president was fairly elected.

It's not progress if you vote for someone just because he's black. Nor is it progress for a young, seemingly hip and progressive candidate to beat a ridiculous old dinosaur like McCain. The man he was running against sealed his victory. It's got nothing to do with being black.

 

I agree that one shouldn't vote someone based on race.

But I don't agree with the point about McCain. It wasn't his age that lost the race for him. It was the (R) in front of his name. Bush pretty much killed the party [or damaged it greatly, at least]

 

In the United States we have masked racism. We say that everyone is equal but anyone whose been in the United States for any amount of time understands that. Sure, skin color isn't important to me, but Obama being elected proves that we're moving away from our old racist ways.

I honestly wish that the first black man being elected president wasn't important, but it is. You can believe it or not believe it, but that's just the way it is.

 

Not just his age, his whole presentation. He was the old, white Republican with a stupid running mate. Against the hip, young, black Democrat promising change, it's kind of a no-brainer.


Skizm: I have lived in the United States for a good part of my life, and I'm well aware of the masked racism in some parts thereof. At this point, however, I think there are a massive amount of people who are not really very racist. Obama is only president because he has the right connections.

 

Sure, there are plenty of people that are not racist in this country, after all, Obama won. Many people voted for him because the issues.

While Obama does have the right connections, that really just helped him with advertising. He's president because people voted for him.

 

Obama won because we voted him in.The only president Ithink was ever elected unfairly was gw bush in the 2000 election as for all the other presidents I would like to know what Zorba knows that the rest of us do not.

 

The advertising was everything. The way his and McCain's campaigns were set up made his presidency. McCain was obviously not going to get elected -- anyone could have seen that.

How accurate the numbers we're given are, I don't know. Obama was quite obviously the next president.

 

That was because gw destoyed any credibility the republicans could claim.Obama was simply the lesser of 2 evils.

The U.S. is blossoming on the road to Progressivism. All of our choices in politics for this time are going to be similar, yet radical and extreme. . . there really is no right and left anymore, no Republican nor Democrat, or liberal or conservative in politics anymore. That's the way it's been going on a steady incline since the days of Woodrow Wilson, we're just nearing the end of the staircase now. The issue here is that our Constitution is being hijacked, which is the fundamental building block of our existence as the country that we are. That should be more important than all of this racial ignorance that's been storming up on a global fucking scale.

 

As an african american you pick up on clues early on in life, and while the racism is not overt as it was in the past; the subtler more refined techniques of today are just as odious
