... I would probably fit in better with people on this Earth than I do now.

I found this forum by chance while searching for "men's forums" in an effort to find forums focused on male members talking about men's health, men's issues, etc ... a place for men to hang out and shoot the shit.

Yes, I'm a loner, recluse, hermit, etc. Others have described me as "eccentric", "highly intelligent", "deep", "intense", and other words, but you decide for yourself. You've probably figured out I'm not too "hip". I've wasted 34 years of my life in futile and meaningless pursuits I was conditioned to follow but now know better. Not the least of those pursuits was the search for a woman that I now know doesn't exist.

And after more than a decade of soul searching and pondering the meaning of why we're all here, I'm happy to report that I don't have the slightest fucking clue.

I guess I'm just here to shoot the shit with anyone who will listen. Hello.

EDIT - I noticed a subtle drug theme on this forum. I was a Tramadol addict for years before the doc figured it out and pulled the script out from under my feet, sending me into a horrific withdrawal. To this day, Tramadol remains the best high I've ever had.

Haha, I knew it :D Very cool ! (Picturing Baywatch in my head) At one point in time, I was one of those lovely creatures, with that beach body and not too many clothes on ... sigh :expressionless:

BTW, it was your username that gave it away, not your avatar pic (which I only just noticed and went "Ah, duh !").

    Nice to meet you :)

LOL, at first, I was going to say, "By lovely creatures, surely you don't mean humans". But, thinking that would sound too cynical, I erased it and wrote that crap about myself.

They say trust your instincts, don't they ! For a reason :)

You will find all sorts of people here including an opera loving nutty professor from the UK who seriously questions whether beings from another universe have been among us for tens of thousands of years.
After all, if we strictly believe in evolution. why did some monkeys get left behind and not evolve into humans.??????

    Hi, nice to meet you.

I think the monkeys you're referring to probably had the foresight to realize that evolution into humans would result in the destruction of this world and they deemed it better not to evolve into humans.

Would you agree that the human race is largely insane ? I have my reasons for thinking this, and will share them if prompted, but want to hear what you think first.

We have an inherent disease called greed. All conflict and wars originate from it at some point in history and it eats away at our lives at almost every level.
I believe that only when we can truly define the word 'infinity' will we be able to remove the shackles that are holding us all back.
I also believe that our DNA is only about 1% understood and we may be closer linked to each other than we realize, some of which manifests itself in our dreams. This could go on to account for what we smother in mumbo-jumbo and call reincarnation.

Sure, greed is one of the big problems. But, in my opinion, there is something even more fundamental that underlies greed, jealousy, and other ugly facets of the human condition - the human ego, which is almost always discontent with the present moment.

You'll hear a great many spiritual teachers talk about this. I don't agree with all their "mumbo-jumbo", and a lot of it is really too abstract for anyone to be certain about, but what they say about the ego and its continuous dissatisfaction with the present moment is exceedingly easy to notice to be true.

What happens when we are continuously looking toward the future or complaining about the past ? We are missing life in the present moment. And, this is the root cause of the greed you mentioned (i.e. looking for some sort of salvation in the future), among other problems.

Well, I'm no expert, but that's my take on it. I'm a guy with a strong scientific background, but I believe that science has its limitations and there are often simpler/deeper explanations to be found elsewhere.

True, I used the word 'greed' but 'ego' is another way of putting it. Sometimes we are really irrational. A friend of ours recently bough a new car and paid an extra £10,000 for a model with a larger engine that can reach 155 mph. The cheaper model could only reach 147 mph, The larger engine model burns more fuel and is front heavy, just what he needs for driving around London where the average speed is 12 mph and most of the city has a 20 mph speed limit. Our national speed limit is also 70 mph. He has no logical explanation except that he wanted a more expensive model than the guy who he works with.
Regarding science. As a science (physics) teacher for a few years, I believe in basic scientific principals, but so much of what is put forward today is mere hypothesis and creates a muddy pond where every answer poses more questions. Medical science is an even muddier pond, with neurology at the bottom
Have you ever come across the works of Roy Clarke,? I think that his scripts (based on his own life experience) are some of the finest works ever written. His full time job was as a policeman in the Yorkshire Dales where he wrote one of his finest works on human character.

LOL, yes, perfect example of what we're talking about !

Haven't heard of Roy Clarke, but will look him up.

I'm a computer engineer myself (software). I love science, almost every kind. But, and here's the huge irony ... I think that technology is largely amplifying and magnifying human madness. Look at things like smart phones with cameras, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram ... look at what they're doing to kids and even adults these days ... makes me certain I don't want to bring a child into this world. I think that with technology, we have taken 10 steps forward, only to take 20 steps backwards (of course, no one realizes that we're going backwards).

And yes, speaking of neurology, the human brain remains, for the most part, a mystery.
