    I understand, baby. :)

I'm not saying that your interpretation is wrong. All I am saying is that a lot of the nice guys you say you want, feel the song bothers them (like girls who feel rap songs are mysogynistic, like you said). If she's talking about cheaters and not boys, the song title should be "If I Was A Cheater" (but stereotypes sell more than experiences :().

It's just another interpretation, but a lot of guys feel that way. And if you want to meet nice guys, one of the things you're going to have to do for them is listen to their side of the story. :D

My side of the story: Girls do just the same. They claim they are not sleeping with you, pretend they are not with you to their friends, etc. They have done it to me. :(

Well I'm sorry "most guys" you know are jerks, I didn't realise you had conducted such rigorous scientific analysis leading to the conclusion that the majority of men are morally deficient. Obviously, your latent sexism is justified.

Though I hadn't actually said you hate all guys, I said the song was shallow, idiotic, and sexist.
It doesn't talk about some guys, or nasty people in general, it is very specifically gender oriented.
If it was just about some people, that just happen to be unpleasant, it would be called "If I were a twat", wouldn't it?

You're more than entitled to like any song you choose, but if you make a post about it in a public forum, you can hardly be surprised when you come up against disagreement.
You posted saying you like the song, I'm posting saying I hate it.

    No harm done

well i do agree that she IS talking about men but shes desribing the cheaters in the song. Signs of a cheater. Coming home late after partying- which i think you should bring your girl with. and not caring what she feels or thinks. not all men do that i know but its the cheaters and women call them "little boys" because they cant grow up so she named it "if i were a boy.." cause if i waas a cheater just wouldnt make the cut. I know a lot of guys disagree with this song, and if they get pissed about it, GROW UP cause its obviously not desribing guys like them so they shouldnt get pissy.

in fact, my dad was the one who offered this song to me because I have a guy that im dealing with and when i listened to this song, it reminded me a lot of him so its just an experience women have and forgive but the women who listen and remember and have the ideal that all guys are like that, should be ashamed of themselves and cant grow up in fact too

There is a new version of this song out now with a male counterpart to it, it's actually better than the original. I think if you're female and have been cheated on then this song makes perfect sense and probably strikes a chord. The problem is that the song makes points about the asshole guys and their bullshit. This door swings both ways though, being shit on and lied to is not something exclusive to females.

There are some evil women out there that can not open their mouth with out lies pouring out or penis going in. Don't get me wrong, you won't find a man anywhere that loves the female species more than I but females do not have it any worse than males when it comes to the bullshit of relationships, so I don't look at it as a gender thing, just a human thing. Nice song though.

Like he already said, it's really obvious from the song title alone that she's saying that ALL guys can get away with that and when you look into the lyrics that gets even more obvious. Not that it matters anyway since it's not like she wrote the lyrics.

Yeah, blame the songwriter. Beyonce's just the messenger. Unless I'm wrong and she actually wrote the song - in which case feel free to ignore this post.:D

Way to much thought has been used up on this song, here (funny though).
I'd hate to read some peoples responses to: Smack my bitch up.

"If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it."

I'm telling you, Beyonce (or the people who write songs for her) does more to make cross-gender relationships more difficult than any "entertainer" I know. :cheers2:

I think there were about 4 people involved in this little gem.
    She contributed a few adjectives.
She needs to pay the rent/morgage like the rest of us.

I do think the problem with "entertainment" is systemic. I think the world would be better if we broke these mammoth record label cartels the fuck up into a million pieces. It's so predatorial, it's ridiculous.

So yeah, Beyonce is just a pawn in a larger game. Even if a very annoying one symbolically.

The entertainment industy (as I am sure you know) is multi-faceted and works on many levels.
It is difficult to avoid people like Beyonce who sell zillions of records with seemingly a bog standard voice and looks.

If they were broken they would not fund their so-called independent subsidaries.
We would not get much music at all.

Even the most respected artists need these bastards.

Haha. We're not going to agree on that one. I very rarely consume "pop culture".

I'm totally content with buying avant-garde jazz from an obscure record label, or an bootleg quality hip hop cd from the back of a truck in the ghetto. :cheers2:

As you know, I don't buy into the whole free market/big corporation/globalization fatalism concept.

I'm sure we could find some middle ground.

That is all well and good but say I want to hear it?
Are you going to give me a copy?
What about their royalties and rent?
Are you going to pay for that too?
    Thought not.

Btw, I can just imagine you in the ghetto...me on the other hand I can't.

I don't like it either but my taste in music has to allow these things to occur. Avant-garde jazz is the work of the devil. Fact.
