I have heard a lot of pro GMO talk lately.

But I have a few questions I would like justified before I can even begin to be convinced that they are even remotely good to digest.

Why do companies (Monsanto, etc.) want to sue states trying to enact labeling laws (to label food that includes GMO ingredigents)? What exactly does Monsanto have to hide if GMOs are fine? If they are fine, just label them already.

Which leads me to my next question, why does it seem Monsanto does not believe in an informed consumer, label the food GMO and let consumers choose.

Why do companies (Monsanto, etc.) contribute billions to lobby president Obama to sign a bill that makes them immune to future lawsuits (this just happened)? What exactly does Monsanto have to hide if GMOs are fine?

Do you think the heads of Monsanto and similar companies are going to sit down with an abundance of GMO corn and carrots and strawberries, etc. and eat them for a year over NON GMO? Really?

Thing is, Monsanto is very anti-labeling (why, whats to hide) and lobbies congress to become immune to lawsuits (fishy) - why? Does not make me want to eat GMOs!

(I guess there is truth to the sick idea "food as weapon")

I think you answered your own question, but I await the the responses of people who will no doubt post here to defend GMOs.

My guess would be that Monsanto does not want to create a bad imagine of GMOs since there is "nothing wrong with them". The act of sticking a label on something makes it seem bad.

That would be their argument. Is it honest? My guess would be a resounding no.

It seems GMOs are best for production.

Perhaps they just forgot to think what the consumer has to get out of it :p

    you have it

the best argument against monstersantos glyphosate poisoned food is the fact that they want to make sure we can't tell that it really is in anything.

    Eat organic

I don't know why anyone would question the motives of MOST of what large corporations would do and are doing to "consumers"-- (I hate that word --reduces real value of people to little pac-Man heads consuming their way through whatever is decided we need next.) ---lives to make MORE AND MORE MONEY. Morality does not enter into it at all. Only $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I've never heard anyone (in real life) defend GMO's. Every single person I've ever talked to about them (and I talk about them a good bit and help to raise money for the mandatory labeling of them through a program that my hubby's company (United Natural Foods Inc.) sponsors.

In any case, you did answer your own question. If they had nothing to hide...well, I will play devil's advocate and say that yes, GMO's, amongst some people, have a bad rep, so many that (their reputation) would make less people buy them, even if they are great for you...they could see how that could cause them to lose money if they were labeled.
HOWEVER... not allowing people to sue them in the future? Yeah, explain THAT one if there isn't any reason that someone would not only open a lawsuit, but win their claim? I don't think they can get around that one.... in fact, that pretty much proves to me at least, that they know something about their products is likely to cause health problems in the future.

If that is their argument (and it makes some sense), then how bout instead of a label that is-say , a circle with a symbol and the words "GMO PRODUCT", how bout then just listing with the ingredients... for example, turning "corn" into "genetically modified corn" then it would be labeling just like with any other ingredient. Get around that Monsanto.

    Yep.

That or "Non GMO Project" stamp.

99% of all food I eat either has the Non GMO Proj stamp OR is organic and therefore non gmo. Gotta watch that things are 100% organic though... if something says say, 85% organic, it's gotta have the stamp.

I try to be scientific about things like this. And there is still no evidence at all that GMO foods are bad for you. You can pretty much assume that all products made from corn are GMO unless it says otherwise. So, in this respect Monsanto is right when they claim there's nothing to worry about.

However, I don't eat GMO foods, at least when I'm aware of it. Why? Well, here I trust my unscientific hippie intuition which tells me, "Don't mess with Mother Nature". I think there's trouble down the road.

There is no solid evidence (although there is debatable evidence) that food which has been genetically modified is harmful, but its more the reason for genetic modification i find so concerning. Monsanto modifies its food specifically to resist round up and I don't think anyone making a well informed decision would actually choose to eat food doused in round up.

That and the bt toxin and mosaic virus and various other things used as " natural" pesticides. Who knows what that shit does to the human body in the long run.

I've heard several people defend GMOs. One such person on these boards is Lode, who parroted the establishment line that "we need GMOs to feed the world."

Are you kidding me? There is tons of solid evidence showing that GMOs cause blood and organ abnormalities. "No solid evidence" comes directly from Monsanto themselves, and has no basis on what actual evidence has shown. Read Seeds of Deception by Jeffrey M. Smith. It's quite bothersome that corporations have such a stranglehold over the truth that people still believe that there is no evidence of GMOs being harmful. Well, yeah, not harmful according to studies funded by Monsanto themselves. Go figure.

It's just like how the cell phone companies tell us it's safe to have a cell tower in our back yard, or when the fracking industry tells us that fracking has no adverse effect on the environment. These bastards have spent so much money trying to convince people to believe this crap that many people actually do and will literally defend these things as being good.

So why don't you tell us how great Monsanto and GMOs are if you're such a fanboy.
