To answer you question. Those products work in a way but are good for muscle pain. This is "how" they work. It's a chemical reaction. The Ice and Heat you feel is the skin irritation. However, when a pain receptor can't feel the "heat" any more it reacts by making it feel like it's cold. Kind of like because it's a blown receptor but will then move onto the next type of receptor. What it really does for you is increase the blood flow to that area of your body. Your body is doing it's job in protecting it's self. So the added blood flow increases the oxygen to those muscles. So that is how it does "work". You can do the same thing by giving that area and those muscle groups a nice massage with some lotion on your hands.

Some advil and asprin combintation work well for me.

I bought some of that Icy hot cream today, felt little bit of both cold and hot, but not burning me like I thought might happened

 

you can buy liniment by the gallon if you have a horse tack supply store in the area
