not all babies drop before labor starts, one of mine did and the other did not. Induction is less likely to work if baby has not dropped yet, and artificial rupture of membranes (if doc breaks your water) is very dangerous if baby's head is not fully engaged in the pelvic opening. If I were you, I would not go back until you're starting to feel the urge to push. Going in too soon is the number one first step in having lots of interventions and being put on their time schedule. Not everyone's body complies with what doctors expect labor to look like.
My water has broken. It broke 5 and a half hours ago. My baby has dropped...he is fully engaged. All is good. Contractions coming 15 minutes apart, and I am in no hurry to go back to the hospital.
With all due respect for mamaboogie (cuz I know she's an awesome person and mama), I'd personally go to the hospital BEFORE you feel the urge to push. When I've felt the urge, the baby was coming. COngrats ITP, what a super fun day your going to have! I'll be thinking of you
I managed to have a nap for a whole hour.. lol. Contractions are still coming every 15-20 minutes. Just sent my hubby out to get me something to eat. He has been wonderful! Fixing me hot water bottles for my back labour pains and fielding all the phone calls from friends and family. Am really wishing my contractions would start to come closer together though! Would really like to get this show on the road!!
Have sex In my last birth, my contractions stayed small, we had sex, or should I say DH really was the one who had sex really LOL and two hours later the babe was born What gets 'em in, get's 'em out
Thanks for all the good vibes Ladies! The contractions are now 8-10 minutes apart. I've had family and friends coming and going, sitting with me for most of the afternoon.. is really nice to have someone to talk to, keeps my mind off counting minutes and anticipating the next contraction. I am still leaking a ton of fluid...lol. My doctor told me he had a lot of fluid around him, but I swear! I must have leaked a couple litres by now! (not to be too gross....lol)
Most of us are mommas ourselves...nothing's too gross anymore. haha... *****baby vibes***** I don't think you're supposed to have sex or a bath once the waters have broken. Infection risk.
colorfulhippie - some docs and some midwives recommend AGAINSt water births if your water has been broken for an etended period. Obviously, if your water breaks during active labor or trainsition and you're already in the tub you are probably fine, but if your water breaks a day or so before that, some docs and midwives don't recommend water births. That's why I could never labor in a tub. Both times my water broke and I never went into labor, and then (one time after 24 hours the other after 48 hours) I was put on pitocin. That's why next time I am going to do better research and have a home birth with a midwife who is comfortable with not using pitocin in case the same thing happens for a third time!
no kidding! I will find myself talking to someone who's never had kids or anything about baby stuff or labour or something to that extent, and they'll be cringing. but it seems totally normal to any other mom, lol I still remember talking to a friend of mine and he was freaking out about this baby pooping in the tub and how it creeped him out so much. I was thinking, "uh huh, so wheres the bad part?" Lots more baby vibes! I hope everything is going well!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, it's been a whole day and a half since she posted, so I bet we have a new forum baby by now! I hope everything is going well and happily for her - I can't wait to see pictures of the little dude!
The baby is here...If you go to her myspace page and click on her husbands page link in her friends he has a pic of the little guy on there. Thought I would let you guys know!!!!!
