Veteran Northern Ireland politician, leader of the loyalist DUP has died aged 88. Branded the 'Doc. No' of NI politics because of his 'no surrender' attitude, he was a controversial figure who provoked extreme reactions on both sides of the NI conflict. Personally I couldn't stand the man. The only positive thing I can remember about him is that on one occasion he had to be restrained in the House of Commons chamber from a physical attack on Margaret Thatcher. Generally, Paisley's rhetoric was sectarian, inflammatory and fed into Loyalist paramilitary violence which was every bit as bad as that of the IRA. After the eventual peace deal, he became 1st minister of NI and became friends with his previous arch foe, Martin McGuinness, deputy leader of Sin Fein. Death of a dinosaur. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/sep/12/ian-paisley-dies-aged-88-northern-ireland
