Ya' know, while perhaps the Dentist's intent was to help portray Blacks as being more prone to violence, I'd think highlighting the teachings, philosophies and actions of the Black Panthers, Dr. X and a good number of those White sympathizers who stood alongside and assisted at the protests, riots and so forth would be a good thing to teach in the Schools. I mean, c'mon, let's show kid's what happens when you segregate a group of society and basically shit on them at every chance you get and see what happens. I mean MLK was a good man by all means, but dont fool yourself into thinking it was him who finally pursuaded the predominantly racist establishment into finally giving up some civil liberties to those it had wrongly subjugated, let's give props where props are due. Sad but true fact, "The Man" listens much more intently to a thrown rock or a Molotov Cocktail than it does to soft words spoken across a table by a humble representative of the underdog.
Of course this seems to be in more a state of flux these days as it would appear the Gubberment listens to the people a tad more now than it did back then.

    We're hanging in there.

Last night, the head of the local (Winston-Salem) school system was asked on TV about the high school prom/lesbian controversy. He said that it wouldn't have been an issue here, that there is no policy that says couples at school events have to be straight. The gay couples simply have to obey the rules about proper dress and behavior, just like everybody else. He could not recall any past incidents of this kind that had been controversial.

NC did not go Republican in the last election. Maybe there is hope for us after all. :cheers2:

Want to see something hilarious regarding the prom, I mean aside from the fact a school district and a bunch of adult parents conspired to make a fake and real prom:

Note the two female tongues at their "real" prom touching each other, but lesbians in a tuxedo, fuck no.

I never really thought it could be possible to sue a school district/town out of existence, but I think it's about to happen in Mississippi.

The grouchy old fart said it best:

"...IN Georgia. but not OF it. "

Atlanta is more like a northern city. The rest of us roll up our sidewalks by sundown.

I know all about that. I used to live in one of those. Never again.

I just don't think people can say that the big Southern cities aren't in the South. Well, you can say it, but it doesn't mean anything.

We need a separate name for the rural and small-town parts of the South, to avoid confusion and excessive stereotyping. Something like maybe the Republic of Teabagia.

It was meant as a bit of humor.

Let's not upset em too much, I live in a little island of my own surrounded by TeaBaggers.

I guess my point was not clear. There are rational intelligent people who live here in the South. We may be in the minority at the polls, but we are a subtle force for change. Give us some time and we'll bring the South into the 20th century.

I mentioned the article about the school paddling to my grandmother who went to school in the late 50's, early 60's, and she said when their skirts were deemed too short, well............they were sent home. Parts of the rural south are literally more then 50 years behind in some areas of culture compared to most of the country.

The thing is while rural anywhere tends to result in conservatism, rural conservatives here seem like in some parts of the south they would be shot down for their hippie liberal ideas.

But you act like rural areas are exclusive to the South.
Do you think none of this goes on in Buttfuck, Pennsylvania.
Or how about Oklahoma, or Montana?
This isn't a specifically Southern problem, the media just likes to portray it that way.
Things like this happen because of a lack of education, which is characteristic of rural areas, which are all over the nation.
