No, he had neither butter nor bread. Just a very random thought. Staring at an almond while stoned, it came to me like a vision! This was the inspiration for the arrowhead, the lowly almond was the catalyst for millions of deaths!
Are you suggesting because eating wild almonds are almost certainly fatal. When early man saw his best friend pop a few almonds into his mouth only to die a quick yet painful death, it planted the seed of an idea in his mind that an obsidian spear-point shaped in the form of an almond would be a more effective killing tool?
In chemistry we learned the problem with peach pits is cyanide, That taste of almond extract is also in apple seeds which also can be dangerous in large amounts.
Peach pits, apple seeds and almond butter sandwiches. Didn't take long for this thread to go off on a tangent!
there were no "primative man" in the sense intended. even an ape can figure things out. pretty much any kind of creature, even a friggin bird can and does eventually. first tool: bang two rocks together so when they break you get an edge you can cut something with. the spear point and arrow head were further refinements of the process. seeds, which fruit pits are of course, often tend to have one end more pointy and the other more rounded as part of how they plant themselves in nature. evolution is just what has succeeded, and so the shape of seeds. people do get inspired by things they see, but in this case, not so much to invent as perhaps to further refine.
There are two varieties. Bitter almonds contain toxins. Sweet almonds are safe to eat. Let's assume primitive man was eating some sweet almonds. Okay?
