I pretend to be all hard, but I feel pretty bad whenever I run over a rabbit. It's only happened twice, and I felt pretty crappy.

Not bad enough to swirve though, nobody should ever swirve to avoid a small animal, you're much more likely to get in a wreck. A bunny isn't worth your life.

yeah, swerving is just stupid. i'm not going to cry over it, but i'm not going to aim for them, either. when i shoot an animal, i don't run up to it yelling "HAHAHAH! GOT YOU, FUCKER!!" or anything like that. it's a pretty solemn occaision, something to be grateful for, but i dont' feel bad. i notice that the people who often cry the most over animals are the one who have the least contact with them.

well, you know, i hear a lot of animal mythology from those who praise and worship animals, and it's pretty clear that the closest contact they have with wildlife is the city zoo and their pets.

Yeah, theres no reason to go crazy over hitting a cat or something, it really sucks, but its bound to happen, all you can do is drive carefull.

I've gone turkey hunting a couple times, but I never really got into it, maybe cause I was young and didn't like hanging out with my uncles for 6 hours, but eh.

If I were ever gonna go hunting, I'd wanna hunt something that'd be able to get me if I messed up, like gator hunting with a spear. Now thats manly.

lol and gator's just plain good.

yeah, you don't wanna hit a deer. my coworker had only been living in the area for about a week when she completely totalled her jeep by smacking a big old deer. she had a concussion and no ride. sucks. she shoulda had insurance.

it is illegal to not have car insurance in ohio. If she would have done that here she would have had jail time on top of it all

I have a '97 grand prix, but don't let the year fool you. It has a cd player, A speedometer built into the windshiled...i forgot what it's called, it has a system that shows you how many miles you can get with your gas, the percentage of oil used, etc..and yes, it said CHECK TIRE PRESSURE...oil wasn't involved in this what-so-ever.

Just for the record, I didn't cry about the racoon, but I did feel bad. I'm not heartless. The fact that the racoon ducked and tucked his head trying to hide made it worse..I mean..it kinda pulled at my heartstrings.

I did about the same thing but tried to hit the animal, pass after pass I kept hitting it then it was gone.

The next day I had to make a small trip with a continues foul smell, it turned out the animal was lodged between one of my tail pipes and the floorpan of the car. It was bad getting the animal out while still smelling fresh from the oven.

I've run over most small animals, dogs, cats, skunks, possoms, raccoons, rabbits, ducks, even a chicken once. I've never hit a deer, but I did hit a cow one time. I like to run over pregnant cats, its like population control. 7 in one.....

Hmm. My sister called last week sobbing hysterically because her dog bit a squirrel, and wounded it. She's very unconnected with nature, she's definitely the city girl, cares little about nature and more about bars and TV. But then she freaks out when her dog catches some stupid squirrel. I say he had it coming, they taunt that dog mercilessly (it's tied to a stake in the yard, and the squirrels know his range). I care about animals a lot, and am somewhat more connected to nature (its hard here in the city but I try), but wouldn't cry uncontrollably if I, my dog, or something else killed a squirrel. I remember another time she acted the same way when she saw a seagull with a broken wing in a parking lot. Sad, but not THAT sad...

I'll have to call her up and see how the little rodent is. It was a leg wound and she said she had it in a box...hoping to save it.

well, you know, if your only personal experience with animals is as pets, you have a hard time disassociating the two concepts. all animals become pets. but when you've been raised to know the difference, it's just not as heartbreaking. i see a lotta death out here, we're not so far removed from death and pain that we consider it anathema.
