here at starbucks. I was listening in and heard they were talking about the bible. I stepped in and took over and talked them using discernment, using bible scriptures to back up my reasoning

Lets hear some super smart stuff then.

Preferably not "backed up" by anything other than your immense intelligence.

It's hardly up to us non super smarties to set the agenda.

Talk about anything. Hermeneutics, Marshall McLuhan, Cellular biology,Bi-metalism - the field is endless - it's your choice.

So, does it make me smart to know about those things? what if I didn't know anything about the things you listed?

"Super" smart you said. If you don't know anything about any of those things then are you super smart?

It's a question I find it hard to answer, because you can be smart but not well educated. But I don't know about 'super smart'. I would expect any person of that caliber to have at least some notion of those particular things. Or at least one of them.

However, as I said, the choice is yours. You alone know what you know, where your particular expertise lies, and what qualifies you to your SS status.

We could talk about evolution and the fact that it completely disproves the biblical account of creation.

We could talk about the fact that the bible says it's okay to kill your children if they disobey/dishonor you, or that it's okay to sell your children as slaves.

We could talk about the fact that the bible says women are inferior to men, and that women aren't even allowed to speak in church. Or the fact that the bible says a woman is supposed to marry the man who rapes her.

We could talk about the fact that the bible says christians are supposed to kill all non-believers, and it specifically includes your own family members.

We could talk about the fact that the Jesus story was stolen from religions that existed hundreds, and even thousands, of years before christianity was invented.

We could talk about the fact that the bible says god sent two bears to slaughter 42 children.

But you're the "super smart" expert, so you pick a subject.

Or we could talk about the fact that, throughout human history, thousands upon thousands of gods have been worshipped, and the people who believed in those gods were CERTAIN they were worshipping the right god(s), just like christians are CERTAIN they're worshipping the right god.

The bible is an entertaining piece of fiction though. The Book Of Revelation is especially entertaining. I love fairytales:love:

But hang on one moment friend, because here we have a person proclaiming themself as 'super smart'.

Now, I may be misguided in this, but when I went to school, what they told me of Christ's teachings created an impression that the follower of the meek and mild Jesus should seek to be a modest person. Humble. Not imagining themself to be superior to their neighbor.

Hence arises a kind of anomaly. On one hand, 'I am super smart'.
On the other, the requirement to be humble, to know that as mere mortals we know sweet FA. Unless you choose a book of mythology to back up your 'reasoning'.

So maybe you can help us poor morons by explaining how such an anomaly can be in the super intelligent.

Modesty is not the effect of christ teaching but abundance in all things is. Pride and humility are the same vain apprehension of what is so. The true apprehension of things allows one a distinct advantage in negotiating mastery of self by being able to firmly determine function rather than be involved in perpetual arbitration. Christ teaching restores balance to perception and frees us to be creative rather than reactive and dispels all notions of hierarchical rewards stating flatly that all measures are equal to themselves.

There is a saying, in the kingdom of heaven the first shall be last and the last first.
This saying does not refer to worthy positions all things being equal, but to the functionality of certain perspectives, heaven and earth being diametrically opposed perceptions of the same phenomena. The last that becomes first is when we defer judgment regarding our sensations and learn what they mean. This coincides with the statement, I desire mercy not sacrifice, go and learn what this means. The world as it stands is quick to condemn and doesn't feel compelled to ask meaningful questions.

This is rather vague. Could you possibly explain a little more what was being discussed and what you based your rebuttal or discussion with them on.

Evolution is the adaptive process of life and doesn't relate to the biblical account of creation at all except to the extent that the symbols in the bible evolved into their current form.

And if you did that you would have made a grievous calculation about real things because the bible is a book and does not speak.
    Same as above.

    Yet again, false premises.

All stories are handed down accounts, so?

    Freaking bible thumper!
You have a brain and could respond to these points but I will hold you to a more vigorous accounting then the lazy account you have given the subject so far!

I don't mean to pick on you personally but to pick at these interpretations posited as "facts" as the latest poster has picked these up and hopes to build on them.
