But if Bugs Bunny ever taught me one thing, it's that rabbits eat carrots, right?
Well if rabbits shouldn't eat carrots then I'm a bloody monkeys uncle xD
Because they love their carrots. Apparently it has to do with sugar content.
I feed my rabbits a vast variety of foods such as pellets, grass, hay, capsicum, celery, brocolli and carrots and beans and they're having a great time in their hutch which I've now extended with some external caging so it's not like I feed them carrots all day and they can't move, they've lots of space. =]

I'm finding pet forums to be quite similar to religion forums and alike where everyone has an opinion and I'm not really interested in it xD

    Piggies love thier carrots too.
The sugar content of carrots is indeed high and carrots probably shouldn't be a staple of the diet but a treat.

I had a piggie long time ago that I went a little carrot crazy on and he got the Beetus.

Wanna know what's worse than a pet forum? The comment section on youtube for pet videos. I've seen people say it was animal abuse to toss confetti on your guinea.

my guinea pigs lived in confetti.. used to bring the shredded paper home from work. I would try not to get that very fine stuff in there but it happened.

My rabbit likes a little bit of carrot as a treat, but he likes lettuce and other greens just as much. Apparently they aren't supposed to have much spinach and kale either, but I still give it to him sometimes. He generally gets the wilty leaves that I don't want for salad. It is like having a quick-acting composter. Their shit is good for fertilizer as well.

They probably saw one do it without taking the packaging off first.

well i don't think you should feed anything its favorite treat all the time. i mean if you ate nothing but cupcakes or bacon cookies or whatever ever yours might happen to be, just because it wouldn't immediately poison you, doesn't make it a good idea for your health. i sort of think the same thing would apply to other life forms as well.

now personally i don't know rabbits well enough to know if they even like carrots, though i'm assuming they probably do. but i do suspect, the objection would be the same as, like eating bacon cupcakes all the time. or cheeseburgers. or whatever.

I don't know anything about the topic at hand so this is the perfect place for my opinion and a useless generalization!!!

My eldest's favourite food is timothy hay. It is perfectly fine for him to have an unlimited supply, since it is also a staple.

but are you so sure it would be that good for him if that were/is, the ONLY thing he is EVER fed?

(no alphalpha once in a while or a treat of oats? a closer equivelant to what i'm suggesting would be to feed him nothing but oats. and i HAVE heard of rather unfortunate results of doing so!)

Nobody is saying to feed thier animal one thing and one thing only.

Can you show me where any of us said 'feed it only one thing'.

You're going to continue to argue about something you admit you know nothing about, fine but don't bereading between lines that aren't there.

All four of my guinea pigs have a wide and varried diet. But they always get Timothey Hay once a day...because that's how you keep a GP healthy. The need it. Just like pellets, or they get digestive issues. They should never go a day without either.

What do I know? I've only been dealing with small furry pets for 40 years.

My objection is that you always come into threads that you know nothing about, drop your two cents like God on high and then double down when someone calls you on your knowledge. (Not just this thread)

You once said that the only reason you're here is so that the rest of all us lowly dumbies can make you feel better about yourself. And since then, I've had little tolerance your your usual posting tricks. Hope I'm amusing you!!! Since that's what we're here for. Irony is, you're no better than the rest of us.

    Now back to small pets

The assumptions have been yours. Now would you like to go back to talking about small pets? or is this a last words game?

This is hand-down my favourite bunny video on the whole internets.
I miss not having a little digger around the yard!
Shame they had to take the music out.

All pocket pets that I have owned I always fed the feed that was made for them but also a good supply of fresh fruits and vegetables. Most pocket pets require them to maintain optimum health. Just like us. :)

It's just like feeding mice cheese...it's not really something that is a natural part of their diet. They love them and they're a nice treat, but they're not really that healthy for their digestive systems. They need a lot of green stuff, protein, less carbs. Cheese is basically crack cocaine for mice and rats and they really shouldn't eat any animal products, but if they get ahold of them, it's like a drug to them. I had rabbits and they mostly eat greens, hay and greens...although they do love fruits too, it's more a treat and you don't want to give them many fats. Mice and rats need a bit more fats but eat very similarly to rabbits on their natural diet that is best suited for their digestive tract.

I disagree that they "need" pellets. That's just a convenient way to feed them. Like commercial dog foods...they don't need "kibble"...years ago they lived just fine on whole foods before anyone created processed dog foods.
