    lol

and i never knew that. and yeah it probably isnt a good idea to try it against parents... Probably wouldnt even work.

But yeah thats what i was saying to her right before i left which was right after the last time i talked to her, i said something like, you not letting me do what i want it just gonna make it way worse when i turn 18 because you cant do anything then.

when ever i say something she doesnt want she just says not when your living in my house. (like college too)

she says that about me gettin a tattoo, but my dads like bull shit ill take him to get a tattoo when hes 18. then my moms like oh no you wont, and gets all pissed off. YET SHE HAS A FUCKING TATTOO THAT WAS DONE ALL GHETTO STYLE when she was younger, like with a pen and needle.

Wow xD WHAT a thread :p Your parents are real hardarses xD

My friends and family said eeww they are dirty WTF do want them for!! I did more and more research to convince them otherwise, they didnt listen.

A week later I had dreads.

You just gotta DO IT!! Mum didn't care after a while, siblings and friends sorta started to like them ^^

My work didn't even know WHAT they were!! In my opinion, the best places to work are with the best atmospheres, and usually, they are the places with th more awesome people, who will accept your dreads as part of you.

I'd say do it subtly if you're that worried, do it naturally, stop brushing your hair, they will start to appear over time, no one can do anything about it. Your school might not like it but my friend who has dreads in school said he was a rasta (he was white too xD) so you can get around anything if you know how :)

OR backcomb, and wear a hat everywhere xD no one will see :p

Dreads are for YOU, your parents have to accept that. If you keep quiet about it for a few weeks and turn up dreaded, that would be awesome xD they'd be like.. "Oh.. wtf?! I thought you dropped it!! Ah well.."

    SEIZE THE DAY!!!

    haha. threadness.
idk anywhere that has a good atmosphere except some all organic cafe place just opened by here and they were hiring basically anyone. I thought about my school trying to make me change my hair but that would just be rediculous, when we have kids who have dyed hair, and people wearing goth clothes.
I wanted to backcomb if i did cause all natural would probably take to long and if my mom saw my hair messed up she would just say to comb it, and backcombing would have more form to it. i dont know how the hell i would keep quiet about it. If i have started dreads i would have to wear a hat all the time and they would be like wtf...? and, I wanted to grow my hair out more before i start so yeh, id have to get around my mom saying i need my hair cut.

Which reminds me, at our loveley dinner conversation after i said i want dreads at some point my dad was like "your going to get your hair cut tomorrow" as in stop all hope NOW.

bleh. I would have to sleep with a hat on too. and i would need different shampoo...

ahhhh. as i said before if all else fails i have about 16 months till im 18... but i probably wont be in college though. it depends when i leave.

Just say no, be stubborn, say its your hair and you can do what the damn hell you want with it.

Do you have a millets or a camping shop in the US? They will probably/hopefully be open minded :) (theres one where I am and they have a guy with dreads and I'm gonna try and get a job there too) or even a bike shop, a craft shop...

never heard of millets but there are sporting good places yeah. theres alot of places to work i just dont know what ones would hire. theres a head shop/ boutique place near my house but i think you have to be 18 to work there. that would be cool to work there...

and i totally would just say no. maby ill give that a try. but still, i want to grow my hair out first and ill have to get around that first. (say no) but still. i know ill get introuble for it though.

    mr legal_rasta. stop moaning!!!

youre coming up with loads of problems, which is putting you off getting dreads. honestly, if your heart is in it, get the fucking things. your 'rents prolly wont even react that bad. if i was your mom, id be saying all these things to make you do it (if you understand that)

yes, i understand your points about school and jobs etc, im in exactly the same position with regards to getting a job. but fuck it. dreads make me happy. no job, person, holiday could ever do that. youve got to do things that make you happy, not others. get dreads and worry about work later.

seriously,, if you want them. get them.

    youve just done it again!

you want longer hair before you get dreads - problem
your 'rents want you to cut your hair - problem
your mom is against the idea - problem
your dad actually seems pretty cool with it, but hes being bullied by yer mom - problem, daddy should stick up for himself.

if you so desperately want longer hair before dreads, then yeah, youre ganna end up waiting until you get outta the house and piss off to uni (college?)

if you so desperately want dreads before longer hair, do ittttttttttt. your hair does grow in dreads yknow.. mine was a good 4 inches longer when i took them out.. so then you get longer hair AND dreads - winner.

lol... i dont think my dads cool with it, but on other stuff he doesnt care as much (but he might more with this cause he thinks dreads are for black people) uhh. it wont take a year for longer hair, my hairs almost 3" as it is, I think it would look better if i started with longer hair. (4 more months?)

what was the winner? i dont understand what you were saying.

the only probelm that im worried about would be, my parents being against it because i can get my hair a bit longer with out getting it cut. but needing to grow my hair out wont be a problem, sure it is at the moment, but once i have longer hair if i still have to worry about my parents its no good.
my hair will grow, but my parents opinion might not change is what im getting at.
also once my hair is longer (by summer break) they might not care as much. I tried that last time with my mom and said i want to try them out over summer or what ever cause i think she wouldnt care as much if im not in school.

oh. i only want longer hair so i can start dreads though. ive never had long hair so idk what i would look like with long hair thats not dreaded. (idk what my hair does when its that long) but dreads would be dreads.

ahhh. i know but i need someone to do it too. and idk im just not digging the short dread idea.

ahhhhh. i know. im just thinking of all the stuff that can and probably will happen. any problems right. but basically i dont want to go to school with partially dreaded hair, and id rather do it over summer...

when you start doing it, how big of like sections of hair would I need to get around 1/2" - 3/4" dreads? i could probably have my friends sister do it. hopefully. haha. we almost did once, when i slept over but my mom said something about it. as to stop me from doing it.

its hard to get locks any specific thickness. thickness and length and how curly the hair is can change things dramatically, plus your hair is different thicknesses and lengths on different parts of your head. the general trend is that they will grow much thicker though.

my best advice would be to start thin and adjust your hair as needed to get the preferred width of lock.

my hair is pretty straight and around 3 inches all around. so your saying if we did for example, 1" square sections of hair they would be more then 1" thick? i was thinking they would get smaller because theyre locking up and becomming more dense...
how would you adjust the thickness once you already have them?

the hair is loose and keeps trying to bind with loose hair farther down the lock thus gets thicker and shorter. they only get thinner if you did something like a really poofy backcombing job. i actually have a super thin lock, its so thin i cant even think of something to compare it to, maybe thick teeth on a comb? anyways its actually thinner at the roots where the hair is not locked, since it is just straight and not knotted at all down there. its like this for all of them.

how thin your locks stay is going to depend on how much you separate them. if you start thin and you're liking how the size is you can just keep separating the locks as normal. if they are too thin you can stop separating them and get them to combine in different ways. if you start too thick there is nothing much you can do other than tearing apart a lock to get it the size you want.

your hair grows at different speeds, is different thicknesses and locks at different stages all over your head. you wont be able to predict how thick a lock will be from the section you make because a 1 inch section on the back of your head and a 1 inch section on the tip of your crown will end up having different thicknesses due to contact, how much hair is there, how fast it grows and the length. the sectioning measurements usually refer to the area on the scalp. an inch from the scalp will not make an inch of hair in your hand unless you have some godly thick hair.

you'll have to start before you can understand these things

well that makes sence when you say it gets shorter. i was just thinking it would depend on how much you start with. I had a dream that I had dreads last night. I liked them and so did other people. it was fun having dreads.. even though it was a dream. idk maby im crazy but I kinda think thats the sort of response I would actually get. hahahhaha just thought of something, having dreads in my senior picture. Im sure my mom wouldnt want that lol!!
Turns out someone my little brother knows, mother has dreads. I want her to talk to my mom about them. I think that would be good.
But I still am waiting for my hair to grow more.... I think my hair is longer on the top so idk if that would make my dreads look weird?
