Yes...the palmetto bugs those are the ones that freak me out. Although the little ones are disgusting too I just don't ever see them. That song Orison posted is so disgusting. I was just listening to Sublime and there is a song that says "finding roaches in the pot" but I think he's talking about the small ones.
I've never seen any roaches here in PA and it'll soon be 6 years of me living here, but I know they're out there. I've had terrible experiences with cockroaches. I remember when I was 7, I went to NYC with my grandmother and spent a whole month there, one day she needed to go to get her hair did. I was sitting in the salon in the chair looking at those books they have with hairstyles from 10 years ago and as I open one, hundred of those tiny little roaches came out. I jumped, yelled, threw the book and was completely freaked out. Then my grandmother yelled at me for being rude, like I somehow reacted inappropriately. In DR, there's tons of bugs. Cockroaches, centipedes, ants, spiders. I'm sure it's because of the tropical weather. I remember being a kid and putting a shoe on and squishing a cockroach with my bare foot. It was so gross, I think I spent an hour washing it.
They're a delicacy in SE Asia. I was sitting at a bar and a lovely Cambodian girl sat next to me and offered me some of her plate of roaches. I had one. Honestly pretty good. Tastes a little like lobster. I had two or three more. We don't eat 'em because they swarm here of course, there they are more like a water bug.
