Retro fashion is cool, but it has no meaning. We're only hippies because we listen to our parents' music, not our own. Daytime tv is filled with pregnant 12 year olds and superficial soap operas. How dreary.
Imagine living in the 50's. Only the wealthier families had black and white tv's with maybe 4 channels. In Canada, First Nations people were not yet considered persons, and could not vote. Most bars even had seperate entrances for them, if they let them in at all. Their kids were taken from them by force and placed into abusive residential schools. Gay people had to hide, and were considered sexual deviants. No internet. No video games. I think we have it pretty good. But I agree, we are going downhill, fast. People now blame everything on others, no one takes responsibility anymore. And our decimation of resources is still accelerating, when it has been past sustainable levels for decades. It will have to change, one way or another.
You see only what you look at. I honestly believe more people are waking up today than ever before and I raise my kids and their friends to be free thinkers. I see in the school systems now such a concered effort to educate the kids and make them aware of the earth and how what we do affects her...it may be to little too late, but it's easier to teach the new ones than retrain the old ones. Those old fockers need epiphanies and what not and even us who look for them have them only rarely...so we just wait for them to pass from the surface and make room for the newer reality to take over. Mean while you can help the people around you...but it's work. ...and I'm no hippie, I only think like one.
who are to to define hippie by music and clothing? I wear what I want when i want and it's a mixture of "modern" and "retro" stuff that fits my personality. I listen to lots of great new jambands like moe. and SCI and YMSB because I like to. I don't really watch TV. Especially during the day because I have a job. Look at things in a positive light. There's so much hurt and sorrow already in the world. It doesn't help to be negative and all gloomy. It just makes things seem worse.
